It's Memorial Day

You would be surprised at the handful of WW2 and Korea vets still around. They can barely stand yet they show up for Memorial day ceremonies year after year, many in wheelchairs. When I started in the Post Office nearly everyone was a WW2 or Korean vet. Then as they retired us Vietnam era vets were dominant. But in all of my 36 years working there I saw only one Gulf War vet. And the scumbag PO management busted her chops just like the rest of us. They were equal opportunity scumbags.

Reading the later post is making me feel like a heel since I'm a comabt vet & have not joined the VFW. It'll be nice to be able to talk to those like me cause at work there are very few vets, even fewer combat vets. In high school with the JROTC, we were always active with the VFW & the American Legion & was impressed from those WWII vets the was the main members. Now I could be one of those guys for the younger generation.

Pretty sure all the WWll vets are long gone. Even some of the early Vietnam guys. I know they have a few from the Gulf War.
Not all, but most.

I saw a figure last year that said about 250,000 were still with us and they were losing about 200 per day. No doubt covid altered that statistic, but, at the time it was what the WWII museum collected with the VA.

But when you consider their ages, you wouldn't be likely to see all that many out and about doing stuff as many are in assisted living or housebound.

I don't know about your area, but here the VFW is DOA. They caused this themselves buy ostracizing anyone who was not a WW2 vet. Then they grudgingly accepted Korean vets, and lastly Vietnam vets though those were definatly the red-headed step-children. I guess one day they looked around and saw there were only three guys left in the post so they officially opened up to "cold war" vets. Too late. Gulf war, OIF, etc, need not apply. So the new vets are invisible. Very sad.
This right here is how it works in the local area I'm in. These guys in the local groups are full on boomers, all Vietnam era Vets and they think they are the end all be all. Any of us who are from the early OIF stuff pretty much are nothing and we don't know anything, according to these old wore out turds.

I want absolutely nothing to do with them and they are all in a very tight clique. It's pretty damn sad honestly, closed minded crap.

Me and a couple military buddies here are on the same page with my above thoughts so it was interesting to see it brought up here. Glad to know I'm not the only area of these uptight old a$$holes.

The woke a**holes in the association we are departing in these next few weeks in cheatem county actually PROHIBIT flying the American flag "on your property" with the excuse its "due to the emotions it may stir in others and the potential for the Flag to be viewed as a symbol of injustice and oppression."

That's all I have to say about that!
