To all Veterans! Thank You for your service!!!
RAYMOND RICHARD SCHIFRIN
Will always be missed!
Raymond was my sister-in-law's, Winnie brother. Raymond became part of our family. He was a good, warm, kind and gentle soul. I was only ten years old. He was always be at our home. Playing in the pool with me and neighborhood kids. He had amazing patient's. Driving me around in his 1968 GTX. Eating diner with us and decorating the Christmas tree. Something he had not ever done before, He was so excited. Every one in my family loved him. I am 58 years old now. I found his name the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial wall in Florida. I cried for over a hour, what a terrible waste!! Having trouble now as I write, to hold back the tears. Late one night. My brother Louis and a family friends. All there hands all bloody from removing the concrete lion from the public library in Rosedale into a van. And moving it to the Rosedale Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. As a more fitting honor to Raymond. They felt the small plate was just not enough. The lion, I believe sits near there today. At an early age I always thanked Vietnam Veterans for their service. Most, up to a few years ago, told me a was the first person to thank them. To all Vietnam Veterans! Thank You for your service!!!

Over the years Ive known many vets from many different conflicts. My dad was in the ARMY and served in Europe during WWll. My moms cousin was a belly gunner on a B-24 and died during a crash at an airfield in Australia. Michael Murphy grew up in a town 25 minutes away from mine. Countless guys that I worked with served in Vietnam. All had stories, some were wounded in action.
I had the pleasure of working with this mans father. Theres a monument in his home town. https://www.cmohs.org/recipients/garfield-m-langhorn

Every year the town I grew up in has a Memorial Day parade. My dad marched in it when he belonged to the local VFW. I marched when I was a Boy Scout. My kids marched in the Little League and scouts. Over the years the turnout has become less and less. What used to be a 1/2 hour parade with people lining the streets is now over in 10 or 15 minutes. A few years ago a girl I went to HS with started a group on FB for saving the parade. Unfortunately the next few years after she started it we had rain every year so it was canceled. Then Covid. This year will be the first Ive been to in 7 years. I hope theres a decent turnout. Ive actually posted a reminder on the local community pages. Doesnt take much to get up a little early to pay your respects and show some appreciation to the people that served our country.

This year I have yet to see any vfw groups set up anywhere. 😕

Every year I say the same thing. Why am I the only house with an American flag out on Memorial Day and Veterans Day?!? If you are a native, you should know better. If you are an immigrant, you came here for a better life. Well, you got it. Show some appreciation. Some of the best soldiers I had the honor to serve with were immigrants. They knew what the deal was and were glad to do it. They were more than willing to serve in our armed forces for four years in return for a shot at citizenship. Maybe we should set up recruiting stations at the border?

Definitely the area you live in, down here on my street every one has a Flag out every day. If anything I'm on the only one that brings mine in when the sun is down and during storms per US Code.

The woke a**holes in the association we are departing in these next few weeks in cheatem county actually PROHIBIT flying the American flag "on your property" with the excuse its "due to the emotions it may stir in others and the potential for the Flag to be viewed as a symbol of injustice and oppression."

I can be an a**hole if you consider it as such. My 1977 c10 is parked in the county ROW, read, not on my property where you can cite me. It has 3 sections of 4th of July theme bunting. One covers the front quills with a swag of starts and stripes. Tailgate gets 2. Took 2x2 scrap and built a cheap framework stateside from busted up pallets. Old glody is represented in dft x 10ft scale, one off each boxside.

After last year's fines. And knowing I was headed out, that was bath of least resistance. Coming with 'hate notes' for not 'supporting the oppressed and marginalized members if our community' but that's about what I expect.

New home had registered voters 9-1 in the opposite direction of cheatem.
