im thinking the ring and pinion would depending on the size, but im not too sure about the whole carrier.

IIRC, they are a leaf spring suspension.... would probably work, but you'd need some welding skills...

I assume this is an S-truck that we're talking about. First, look under one of those trucks and note the leaf springs. "Some" welding skills is an understatement. The hard part is welding the upper control arm mounts to the cast center section. Of course, once all that work is done, you still have a 7.5" axle.

82-97 s trucks have 7.5 rear ends. you can weld the control arms on, or pull the guts out and put them in your housing.
98-03 s trucks had an 8.5 rear end. if you are going to weld arms that would be the diff to do it too.

but it will never be 100% bolt in.

if your looking for a 3:42 or 3:73 rear end, just swap the guts.

hope that helps, i'm kind of an s10 expert. i have 56 of them or so in my back yard.

Not entirely, some but not all 94-05 S10's did come with the 8.5 under them, but reguardless, it is really not worth the effort and fab work for a just "ok" rear. You'd be further ahead finding a earlier A body rear and buying the control arm kit, or just find an 8.5 made for your car.

56? wow, you have a scrap yard? lol i need my own scrap yard lol

do you sell parts? wifes balzer needs a few things.

Not an expert, but I believe they (early ones) are Gov-lok LSD also.

They are fine for a driver, but once you start making hp combined with traction they snap.

Peaked my interests. Possiblities of a cheaper likely posi'd 8.5" source complete with disc brakes. What is the difference in widths New S-series versus G-body? The welding shouldn't be that big an issue .... people fab 12 bolts and 9s to fit all the time. Not to mention snagging the front brakes for an upgrade too.
