That sucks about your hood, but kind of too be expected I guess. You should see the dents I have put in my hood. There are two really big dimples in it from a slidehammer. I was pulling an injector out of a diesel head next to my car. The slidehammer flew out of my hands about two foot in the air and landed on my hood. I was pissed, but I was the one who did it! The Nova has a two inch scratch on the hood that no one knows how it got there. The Vega has some small cracks and solvent pops in it. Now it is just broke in, so now you need to drive it! Are you drilling alignment holes in the mounts for your body parts, so they go back to the same spot?

Joe, the hood stand looks awesome. Great progress. Sorry to hear about the damage. Put together, drive and enjoy your beautiful, imperfect car.

Thanks Jared. The stand is pretty crudely built, but it's sturdy and I feel a lot better about it than I would just leaning the hood against the wall or setting it on the roof of the car. The damage sucks but it is what it is I guess. I live with 5 other people who all view cars as appliances (and admittedly I can be clumsy myself), so I guess it's unreasonable to expect there not to be any damage after 4 whole years of sitting stationary. Hopefully I'll be able to make it a little less noticeable once I've got the front clip back on for the last time.

I read no boast into it. Seems like an appropriate figure given what you've done to it. You're gonna have a great car once it's finally all back together.

I didn't think you did, but I wanted to make sure I didn't come off as a blowhard. I certainly didn't intend to.

Honestly I have no idea on the actual dollar amount I have into this car. I've never tried to actually calculate it and I probably never will. I'm sure it's more than the car is worth but now that I'm past that point what does it matter? What matters is I love the car and I love sharing it with a group of guys who are passionate about these cars. It is slowly becoming everything I have always wanted it to be.

Thanks again for the vote of confidence. It goes a long way towards getting my interest back in working on the car.

Sh*t happens I guess! Paint is bound to get scratches, it's the nature of the beast, especially when you are taking a car apart and putting it back together. There are a few chips in my truck's paint that happened during reassembly that are my fault. I'm not going to drill any alignment holes, I've done that in the past and found it easier to just adjust the gaps by eye. I will tape any shims in place though.

😀

I know!! I'm so tempted! Bob and Mike said headers should really allow all that cylinder head work to do it's thing.

If you read this old hotrod magazine build (you probably already have seen it) they were worth about 30 HP and 15 lb ft of torque breathing through milder heads than mine.

Yeah, full length headers add that much, Olds with full length headers add a similar amount. Even shorties add power, just a big argument on how much.

$550~ is the kicker tho. No options besides custom or A body full length. Dougs d200r full length look damn near the same but come with collectors bolts and gaskets. I asked on summit what the heights (right measurement?) of the hookers and dougs are. If the dougs are the same or very nearly so, they're the better deal. But Tbh I'm more inclined to go the hooker route as that thread is evidence they fit pretty well.
