Transmissions By Lucille. Had them rebuild the 4L60 that was in the old POS '08 Silverado over two years ago & did a great job. They are in Verona. Used to have a lot shops in the area years back but cat back due to the lack of good transmission guys. For the r&r of the trans, road test/direct delivery to my door they charged $1800 & gave it a two year/24K mile warranty.

Awesome, good to know. Thanks!

Just keep swimming!

That's about all I can do, I just hope someone here is paying close attention because if I drop dead tomorrow they are the only hope for this car ever getting back together!

Worst case James and I both know builders who can work on a 200-4R. I'd be willing to help you source one down here, get it built and ship it to you.

I really appreciate that. When I get to that point if I still can't source once locally, I will take you up on that.

Keep in mind that many reviews are done by people that don't know what they are doing and might have even had someone else do the install that didn't do it right.
Both reviews claim an oil leak , the first one says the pan leaked and replaces the gasket and it still leaks and the second comes back with an update i am betting installer error on both.
UPDATE, The problem I was having with my transmission leaking wasn't a problem with the trans itself, it wasn't installed right the first time and it just took replaced the grommet and that stopped the leak, I couldn't be happier with the trans so far.

Very true. Summit reviews generally don't mean much since basically anyone can write anything.

Definitely replacing the cross member with with a G Force type unit. As for a rear axle I was actually planning on a Quick Performance 9" just because they can be custom ordered and I don't have to go through the trouble of tracking one down and picking it up or shipping it, and hoping there is nothing wrong with it. If an 8.5 does happen to pop up near me for the right price, I'd go that route but unless one pops up locally the Quick Performance 9" is just an easier choice.

Jared you're probably right, transmission is sorta just the last thing on the list right now which is why I haven't put much thought into it. The transmission probably will wind up being the last step or towards the very end of this build.

sh*t happens, live and learn. Honestly if you are ever up my way, I'd be glad to give you that '76 block I have. It needs the basic machine work but it's a good block. If I gave it to you I know it'd at least be going to a good home.
Don't have any ties to the east whatsoever, but if i end up lost and in PA i'll let you know lol

I follow this guy named Steve Vaillancourt on Facebook and Youtube. Nothing but turbo Buicks. Seems like a good dude, has hundreds of writeups and videos. Steve V's Automotive is his FB/YT page. Quoted me $1600 shipped for a 500hp capable GN 200r4.

TCI is junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No reason not to do it in stages to spread the pain. You could still do the suspension and engine while leaving the TH350 and 2.41s for now to get the bugs worked out. Then start collecting for 200-4r and 8.5"/9". I know you've seen it written a hundred times though, overdrive and better gearing really changes the whole personality of a Gbody.

Totally
Crap
Internals?

You're absolutely correct!!

i had bought a TCI TH350. Street Fighter years ago

Brand new right from Summit

Lasted about 2 months in a street car.

Wouldn't warranty it...pulled it apart, all junk and it had a case saver installed in it!!

I wouldn't even use one for a boat anchor !!

This isn't cheap but you need a billet foward drum and price out the upgrade parts alone, they add up quick. http://www.ckperformance.com/View/2004R-FULL-BILLET-PRO-STREETSTRIP-TRANSMISSION
If you mostly drive in the city or don't care if you rev to 3500 rpm on the highway, then go TH350. I wouldn't put a POS 700R4 or 4L60-70E in anything. The 2004R not only is a direct fit most are dual pattern, some only BOP, bolts right up. They also don't need an adapter plate unlike the 700R4 along with cutting your drive shaft. I would honestly go milder on the gearing with a TH350 with any amount of highway driving.

I plan on doing exactly this on my 70S with the 424 stroker but it has a 2.78 8.5" Type O rear. Only upgrade I would do to the 7.5" is Yukon spider gears, $70 and 15 minutes. The soft stock spider gears exploded horsing around on the street with my 403. Even the replacement gears out of an Astro van from a wrecker, the spider gears were heading south. I checked the Yukon spider's after quite a few runs at the track on slicks running 9.4 in the 1/8, looked like new. Tell me when tiny and soft has ever been a good thing😁

At the very least I'm going to have to buy parts in stages... Unless I want to max out like 5 credit cards.

I don't like tearing the car completely apart but I don't want to make work harder on myself by having to work around parts that are going to get replaced anyways, i.e. fuel system, rear axle, rear suspension. I do want to refinish the underside of the car with some type of rust stop paint and Gravitex, and I want to be able to coat above the axle and the fuel tank and behind the fuel lines, etc, etc. I want to make sure I get paint everywhere it's supposed to be and no where that it isn't. And masking stuff off underneath a car is no fun.
