Afaik most aftermarket th350s have the kickdown stuff removed. Find a good short shaft bop th350 on CL for $150, and put a trans go 350-1-2 kit in it. Even with my wheezy 350 it would chirp 2nd. Shifts are quick and crisp but not hard and bang-y like B&M. I had the orange(?) "Street" spring in as well.

Which wheezy 350 is that? The one with the comp cam or the one with hole in the block where the starter used to be? 🙃

Powerglide 2 speed!
I basically had that when I put a TH250C behind a 403, first gear lasted one day, not kidding😢. Of course I have fried three TH2004R transmissions as well. They fit directly where the TH350 goes, just need the crossmember further back and uses a different one, you probably want the double hump aftermarket anyways. It has great gear ratios 2.74/1.57/1to1/.67. With a lock up converter you will drop 1000 rpm on the highway over a TH350. They need to be built by someone who knows these transmissions. They are pretty weak in stock form, the Turbo Regals had the best valve body, governor and servo. CK Performance sells the better valve bodies and governors. Parts like the billet foward drum would be a good idea behind you torque level. CK and others sell all the upgrade parts. Are you putting in a 8.5" rear?

Joe,

You spent all that money on the engine build. You're going all out on the chassis and engine compartment. You need a built 200-4R!!!!!!!

I'd run a th350 and the 2.41s (I assume that's your gear) with the rally's, then swap the rear and trans at a later date at the same time. Your 350 is leagues better than all 3 of mine, but I still doubt it will like 3300rpm on the highway.

... the one with the hole.
The '76 was actually a really good engine. Until it ate the bearings. Assembly error, forgot the front galley plugs. Oops. The things you do at 16. Broke in with no oil pressure, and drove it for 2 miles around town before rockers started to chatter (thanks moly-graphite assembly lube!), found the issue, and actually had no issues whatsoever for 5,500 miles.
Yours should fare much, much better.

Definitely replacing the cross member with with a G Force type unit. As for a rear axle I was actually planning on a Quick Performance 9" just because they can be custom ordered and I don't have to go through the trouble of tracking one down and picking it up or shipping it, and hoping there is nothing wrong with it. If an 8.5 does happen to pop up near me for the right price, I'd go that route but unless one pops up locally the Quick Performance 9" is just an easier choice.

Jared you're probably right, transmission is sorta just the last thing on the list right now which is why I haven't put much thought into it. The transmission probably will wind up being the last step or towards the very end of this build.

sh*t happens, live and learn. Honestly if you are ever up my way, I'd be glad to give you that '76 block I have. It needs the basic machine work but it's a good block. If I gave it to you I know it'd at least be going to a good home.

Since you are probably over budget anyways go ahead and run your 3 speed but attach this to the back of it.
I will be getting one for the Monte at some point.

"Bud-get? " What does that word mean?

I was waiting for someone to suggest a gear vendors unit. I don't know enough about them to form an educated opinion.

I spent some more time pulling lines out and also got rid of some of the old suspension parts to make a little more room in the garage. Here's a lousy picture of the lines hanging down.

I'm pleased with the output of the heater I bought. This thermometer is on the far end of the garage.

I've got to get the Camry inspected by the end of the month and its going to need 4 tires among other things, so opportune time to replace the steelies and hubcaps. I found these SE model 16" alloy wheels pretty cheap so I grabbed them. I spent a few minutes cleaning them up but they'll clean up more.

My buddy has one in his 69' Nova with a 598 BBC and he drives well over an hour on the highway to come down here and go with me to car shows.
The over/underdrive goes through the gears flawlessly and they are pretty much bulletproof, the weakness will be the trans in front of it.
