I remember the stroked 305 Malibu wagon series in PHR in the early 90s.

This was the article that made me decide to buy a new 5.0L Mustang. I had two mid 14 second cars ('71 SC360 & Cuda340) as previous daily drivers but they were too nice to daily drive any more (both were restored to stock for weekend car shows) and I wanted a mid 14 second car. I was looking at everything from Toyota Supra's to FWD Dodges.

My '86 Mustang was on order for 6 months when the April '86 Car & Driver came out with an '86 GN running 13.9's. My loaded '86 convertible Mustang ran 14.55's with just the silencer removed from the airbox, so it was exactly as I expected it.

If the GN had run a 14.3 in the 1985 C&D article, I probably would have bought one instead.
