Ok I wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything. You should find yourself a good running 350 and drop it in there. IMO your alot further ahead doing that than trying to polish a turd. The money you spend on waking up that 305 you could find yourself a nice stock vortec 350 out of a yard to hold you over until you can get a nice rebuild and it will still be a great power upgrade in stock form.

Honeslty I wouldnt be too concerned about the mileage unless its like 150k and above. I would do a compression test, listen to it run (if possible), check oil pressure cold and warmed up and make sure it doesnt smoke. I would also check the dipstick before and after just to be safe. Its not like it has to last forever because your proably gonna wnt to rebuild it in the future anyway. I got my 400 from a 71(?) truck with 130k on the odometer and god knows how long ago it quit working. I checked everything out and almost 2 years later its still running strong with no problems. I learned the hard way on a supposed 355 to never take someones word for anything so you will have to check it out.1984-monte-carlo-ss said:
