Just recently repainted my 14 in Rally rims, and add some new rubber.
It had been a few years since I replaced my tires on my g body. I had always had the BF goodrich radial T/A's on them. 225/75/14
Last time I bought them they were $135.00 a piece, which is gawd awful expensive for a 14 inch tire. I was told at the time, 14 in. tires were a specialty tire now. WTF?
So fast forward to this past month when I was looking to repaint my rims, and add new rubber.
Go to the tire dealer I deal with, and he tells me that the 14 in BF Goodrich radial T/A's are now...., $185.00 + tax. My mouth drops! What?
He tells me that Coker Tire has bought the rights to the 14in BF Goodrich radial T/A's , and they are the only game in town if you want that tire.
Hell with that...., $200 a tire? That's high end sticky rubber corvette tire money.
So after convincing myself that the sky was not going to fall if I didn't get the same thing I'd always had bought, I would up purchasing some Cooper Cobra Radial G/T's off of Tire rack for $108 a piece. That's a bit more reasonable. Now that I have got used to them, I think I like them better than the BFG's.
They have a nice aggressive tread pattern, and seem to be pretty sticky.
The rims had been bugging me for a while. So I finally bit the bullet one weekend and just went ahead and "got er done"!
To sum it up..., lot's of work, dry time, paint time, sanding block.
The factory uses a kind of gun metal grey on these rally rims with silver trim.
I have a black car, so I decided to paint the rims with an epoxy black /w metal flake silver for the trim.
I think overall from a distance it does not look bad, but you know how it is..., sometimes you look at something you've just redone, and you pick it apart,
when most other would never notice.
Anyhoo, enuff of the gabbing. Here are some photos through the process. Sorry if they are too many on here. I'll just put up the better ones.
