little gate thing on drivers side header?

It's purpose is to redirect exhaust gas from through the intake manifold to help with cold start driveability. I never noticed a huge difference without it in driveability.
 
EFE valve = drivers side manifold on an OLDS engine ( when an engine has one like on every 307 ). Chubby's are the ones with them on the wrong side. No, you don't need it.

when I had one on my 305 it was on the right side.... :mrgreen:
 
If it was me I would remove it. You should pick up a little performance since it's less restriced then. Alot of the them like to seize halfway open or sometimes even closed.

thats a chevy motor lol everything is it reversed
