I think most of the problems people have with off the shelf carbs is unrealistic expectations. If your motor runs like shiz, odds are putting an untuned off the shelf carb on it, isn't going to fix it. I don't think there's anything wrong with an edelbrock carburetor... Other than bad quality control on some batches.

I just think most people just understand how to make a Holley carb work, and that isn't really going to help you with a Q Jet or Edelbrock. I wish I could tune a Q jet like a pro... But I can't.

Do you have a vacuum advance distributor? You will need one or no timing advance, very bad for an Olds V8. The 307 is a 8 to 1 peanut cam smog V8, the 85 and later have slightly less compression and tiny ports, no powerhouse. Honestly the factory exhaust and tubular manifolds on 85 and later are very restrictive. Even factory cast iron manifolds, which still suck and true dual exhaust is a noticeable upgrade, start there.

So an update. So far im getting better gas mileage. Ac doeant cause high temps. The edelbrock uograde is desireable until the zzz's hopping off new tran and engine. Minus the the egr had to be fabricated to fitting. Smell alot of fumes which may be caused from smog valve or whatever proper term is called. Has been welded to temp fix damgage. Pictures upon request

Im sure holly would create better results but plan is to upgrade to chevy 305 and a 350 trans.
