Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Im doing my best to get my hands on this one, got the money set aside. The owner is a hard man to contact so it may take some time. I hope it will be at my shop and the ownership in my hand soon!

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Agreed, go get it. You'll be surprised how much you can part it out for, probably 3x that.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

I managed to get my hands on the SS this weekend. I got the ownership but the owner lost the ignition key years ago so Im going to put a new cylinder in the column. Managed to brake the wheels loose. The car has been parked since 1999! This is also the third A/C delete monte Ive owned.

So whats your plans for it?

Well I plan on looking over it closer once I get it out of the field and back to the shop. I know the rockers and quarters are rotten same with the doors. rear rails are soft. I dont know when it was lat ran. so far im thinking of using the shell and the frame from the 81 and continuing with the street strip build but adding the SS pieces to it. So im basically thinking of the SS clone look now, just my idea so far. Open to suggestions, just think the SS is to far gone to save.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Got the SS home today finally! I had to drill the trunk lock out because none of my keys worked in it. Took a pic of the trunk sticker to see if I can decode some of it.

heres what its got

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

wow, all that smog junk should be worth something to someone. I have not seen a monte in Ontario with the functioning airpump installed for many years !! Most non-AC SS's I have seen all had t-tops, and all the hardtops ( mine included ) have been AC cars. Good luck getting it out of the field.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Well I guess I havent posted on here in a while...
As of lately ive been very busy because I just started a new job. So far I have finished up the frame and made it a roller again. I just stuck the stock rear in for now since the 9" isn't done yet. I brought the shell into the work shop and started stripping the underside of the layers of oil undercoating, the stuff is hard to get off. One good thing so far is that the are no holes in the body other than the floors. however I found the cause of the floor rot the be from leaks around the windshield. I already have new floors for both sides. I have not touched the fresh out of the field 87 SS yet other than getting it running. I plan on having the new floors in the 81 soon.
