Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

I'm assuming your talking about the spoliler on my 82 monte. It came from a monte SS like my like the one i just picked up this summer.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Started fitting the new floors in this weekend. They fit decent for the most part, just some minor tweeks needed. Just have them in place with some self tapping screws for now, still have to weld everything. Also have to reinstall the floor brace and seat brackets. Oh and not to mention the bucket seat and console brackets 8)

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

im glad to see there's people that are out here saving these cars instead of letting them rot away.. good sh*t man!!

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

For once ive actually been making alot of progress on the monte. Got the floor pans all welded in but still have a pile of grinding to do. I also still have to seam seal everything. The bucket seat brackets are welded in which came from my 83 grand prix. Console and shifter brackets are also welded in. I cut the extra brace out of the grand prix which my monte didnt have. Hope to have the floor in epoxy soon, then there may be a 6 point roll bar in the works 8)

And the metal work continues...

I repaired both wheel wells and a couple of spots on the lip. More to come soon.

Absolutely ovin' your project! I wish I had the time and resources that you seem to have. Just curious, on this project and/or the other one, did you have any kind of budget?

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

I can't believe you got the other Monte for $500, and this one for $100! That is freakin awesome!

Thanks JRG53! I had some what of a budget on the 82 monte. my goal was no more than $5000, which I probably came close to. I havent added up all the reciepts yet. There was really no budget planned on the 81, I have just been spending a little bit at a time which my tiny bank accont can afford. There will be alot more spent on the 81 because I have bigger and better plans for the drivetrain. I am more fortunate than most because I have the space, and my father and I have the time and the patience to do these builds. Also its a great way to spent time with the old man.

If you seen the floor pan and the state it was in you will understand why I only paid $100 for the 81 lol. This is why I picked up the 87 SS doner car. I seem to start out with junk that most people wouldn't even think about fixing, but in a way its nice becase I will know everything is done to my standards.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Just a quick update...

Seam sealed all the joints on new floors then covered the joints with epoxy primer. I also replaced the dried mounds of factory seam sealer in the trunk with new sealer. This past weekend I picked up a new (still in box) 8-point roll bar kit from competition engineering off kijiji for $100. should soon have the floors epoxy primed and painted top and bottom 😀
