Now that I have the floors finished (except for paint) I am working on fitting the roll bar kit. This is something I have never done before and its a bit of a learning experience. Holes have been drilled for the main hoop so far and I have it sitting about where it should be now. I have been using the finished 82 monte as a reference and have been using the IHRA rules. I cut and fitted the cross bar into the hoop which should be at no more than 4" below the drivers shoulders according to rules. This has been a challenge fitting the bars since I plan on keeping as much of the interior as possible. The rear brace bars will be bent so the will go through the rear package tray so the rear seat can be installed. I also will have to figure out how the door bars will clear the arm rests on the door panels. I'm open to suggestions, as I said ive never done a roll bar yet.

Finished up the floors today and epoxy primed the bottom side. Cant wait to paint them gloss black tmrw 😀

Painted the floors gloss black today. Turned out great, my camera doesnt do it justice but it has way more gloss in person. Now im just waiting on my energy suspension urethane body mouts to get here and I can set the body back on the frame.

My new energy suspension poly urethane body mounts came in this week so I could finally set the body back down on the frame. also primed and painted the firewall.

man thats looking good ,,,, i love frame off threads ,,,,, i also have a monte same as both your 81 and 82 ,,,mines an 86 ,,, grabbed it for $300 has 45k on it had the 4.3L fi no ac car and pretty close condition to what your 81 was in rear rails etc afraid to lift the carpet lol bought it for a local event where a garage has burnouts and donuts heres a little unfinished hood work i started for carb ///air cleaner space ,,,, love these montes ,,,nice work cant wait to see the end result

That hood is turning out sweet, I dont think I could tackle something like that yet. Looks like the same color as what my 82 use to be.

Since this seems to be the 81 Monte thread, I have a question. I am confused as to what doors will fit the 81? Does anyone know for sure what dooors off what will fit this model 81? I am just starting 81 that was stored for 16 years in garage. Thanks

oldblue82 I have to give you two thumbs up for this project I've been following it since you got the mcss and I just wish I had the talent you do! rookie81, I think doors 81-88 will be the same fit but don't quote me on that and goodluck to both of you from here on out 😉

All doors are pretty much the same from 81-88 on the monte carlos. The only major difference is that the 86 and up montes changed to the aero style mirrors which mounted in a different spot on the door than your 81 would.
