Hopefully your donor car wasn't too beat on. My BIL had a 95 Z28, car was fast and fun. The 4L60E needed rebuilt around that mileage and the engine had a tick. He brought it in for a valve adjustment before the used car warranty was up. The mechanic let slip that the oil pump pickup fell off, supposedly happened on a few LT1's. He was pissed. No problems with the Optispark though.

We appreciate the interest that been showing by others in this project. Now that we have the donor car in our garage, the first task is getting it running in that car and assess the condition of the stuff we want to use.

Next we will move the stuff to the wagon and hone it all in.

There are dreams of a twin turbo setup in the future. I don’t think we’re looking for a show car here. But more like a rat rod approach. Function and reliability will be the main goal.

I think the term here is living vicariously through others. Us older guys particularly do that. Sorry If I didn't have perfect wagon tank advice, but generally if I'm a little wrong on something & I'm doing the engineering in person, I make S**t happen.😛
That optispark & the older computer system is one of the downsides of the 90's LT1's which there is another solution for. The LS coil & computer system retrofit. Not sure who all sells the setups, but that would upgrade a major downside of the older systems.
Sucks to hear the holley sender won't fit a wagon, sounds like it won't fit an elky either.

One thing for sure is most upgrade swaps these days are to the LS base platform, including into non GM cars. Walking down the row at the car meet and look into the G body engine compartment and see an LS. Yeah yeah.... isnt that pretty common and becoming less exciting as time goes by? It's cool, don't get me wrong.

Now, look in the G body compartment and see an LT1? Hmm, lets stand here and talk about this for a while.... Toss a couple a turbos into the mix and now you got a conversation...

They're damn tough motors. The pickups are pressed in, but aren't all small blocks this way? Mine's welded, it ain't goin nowhere.
My BIL is a licensed mechanic and now teaches it, I'm sure that is what he said. Maybe a bad batch of pick ups?Lots of power, fuel efficient and the motor ran fine till he traded it in. The 4L60E dying is no surprise to me, junk behind any power or abuse. You may get lucky on the trans.

The turbos are the conversation starter. People walk by my car and it looks like a total pile. They casually notice the way newer engine and all of its wiring, they trip over themselves and snap necks when they notice the turbo tucked up behind the headlight.

We got the Camaro running. Had to change the pump. Even after changing the pump, I can get it to run only by hot wiring 12 v directly to the pump. Probably a corroded connection or bad ground because it worked initially. Since we’re using engine, trans and all supporting electronics, I want to hone out all the bugs before we pull everything. Mechanically the engine is sound and the trans engagement is normal. There’s a slight ignition or injector miss I want to iron out too. Overall we’re very happy so far.
