I agree, it's a great site. Everyone is so helpful.

i just got my opgi catalog in the mail and it has the gaskets listed. not sure if they were by the strip or in a set but they were rubber and like 20-30 bucks i think. i can check again

I looked, couldn't find them. What model where they under?

Great info and good to know...I plan on doing mine sometime...but has anyone ordered these yet and found out if they really do fit/work?

Thanks

hey bonnewagon i think i might be able to help with your gasket problem. i had been thinking for a while on starting a business that is dedicated to restoration gaskets, since i worked four a couple of years in the gasket making industry and can probably source any kind of gasket material. hey who knows maybe this could be the start of something new lol.

But anyways bonnewagon what i could do for you is this: if you give me the old gasket and let me borrow the trim, i should be able to draw up the gasket exactly to the orginal and have it cut out for you and ill ship it back your way with the trim. The gasket would be free only because i dont have this gasket in my freshly new catalog of gasket, which is none so far 😀 so tha would make you lucky number one .

but couple of questions first :

1) By the look of the gaskets they all look broken and incomplete right? or is there at least one gasket somewhat complete?

2) The gasket cant be a molded gasket, for example with a lip or ridges. it must be flat. If it isn't completly flat i MAY be able to make you one that is just as looks good and functional.

And to everyone out there reading this:
how many of you would be interested in these gaskets? or other types gaskets for like taillight to housing , firewall parts, door locks, parking light to housing, license plate to light, etc.

I know there are already companies out there that sell some of this stuff, but maybe i can provide them at a better price and maybe make something meets or exceeds OEM quality... just want a little feedback on what you guys think.

Fonz,
That's very noble of you to offer your expertise in making various body/ trim gaskets. I'm having a slight dilemma about my wagon 1/4 window gaskets, or profile strips. They slide into the back of the molding and are very similar to the windshield molding strips. They're usually shot to sh*t from sun/ weather exposure. The moldings are currently off the car along with the 1/4 window glass. I'll need to paint the window channels before replacing the glass and moldings.
I'll see if I can take a pic of them and you could give me an idea whether it's doable.
The gasket, or strips are actually a plastic type material...same basic material as the roof rack strips.

Thanks man!

That's a very generous offer! Thank's! Let me see if any of them are intact enough to use as a model. I'm not sure if they are flat or molded so I must take them off to see. I will get back to you!

Mark,
IIRC, they were slightly molded, but not too intricate. And again, I'm going by memory.

hey long roof, remember as long as the gasket is not a molded type gasket with lips and curved edges, then most likely it can be done. If is molded i would need to see a pic of it to see if an alternate can be made but still be functional.

and bonnewagon if they are slightly molded like a very small lip, i think we can also come up with an alternative also.

It is kind of like the gasket that goes in between the mirrors and doors they usually have this slight lip to them, like the pic below, but you usually can't see it cause its under the mirror housing, but i think a flat design would still work and be functional. So this might be the case with roof trim.
