Mark, Quadrajet Question

Mark, I found some more info on the M rods, they all have the 36 tip. The carb I found the M rod in still has the metering rod spring so I'm thinking the rods were never changed since it came from the factory

Steve, since we have the same first name we must be related, let me know where you are so I can send my carb to my favorite relative for a rebuild...🙂

I barely wanted to rebuild mine lol :friday:

I got it installed. Runs decent so far but I can tell it needs a little tuning. Idle and response is good, but I still have to get the TV cable adjusted a little better. I can't get any full throttle downshifts yet.

Just for that you are off my Christmas card list...🙁

You did a great job rebuilding that carb, it sounds fantastic...

"the M rod still has the metering rod spring" You mean the microscopic spring that clips onto the power piston and holds the rods by their ears? That is a must have item, it should never be left off!
Steve, that 403 looks and sounds awesome!

Thanks guys. I didn't mean to hi-jack the thread too much. It's time to get going on the GP again!

IThis one was plastic media blasted and coated with Eastwood's carb renew paint (silver obviously).

That carb looks great. This may be a stupid question but do you coat some or all of the internals too? It seems to me that you would want some sort of coating after cleaning and stripping thoroughly but maybe I'm not thinking correctly.

you added to the thread, you didn't hijack it at all...the thread is all about quadrajets and your carb shows how superb quadrajets can look and work if they are done right

all the carbs that I have had in the past never had that retainer on. I am going to try a new set of rods this week so I will be sure to use that retainer on my carb.

Well, they all came from the factory with one in place. Of course then the average guy comes along, tears down the carb, cleans it, and tries to re-install the spring and- BOINK! Off it flies to never be found again. Drogg1- you are correct, no paint on the inside. Too many tiny orifices can get clogged not to mention that few paints can withstand immersion in fuel. I think the factory used some kind of anodizing but even that doesn't last.

I lightly coated the venturies and carb throat, but that's it. I taped off the gasket surfaces and inner passages. I really would have liked to have used the original color, but this formula is supposed to be more durable & fuel resistant.
