model building

I've been trying for about 16 years to create a 1:1 scale model of my original Malibu. Somewhere along the way, it twinned and turned into a coupe and a wagon.

It took me three different kits to come up with this. Wish I could find a cowl hood for it.

Just had a model flashback moment! I remember back in the mid '90s putting hydraulics on our models, heavy metallic paint, even put wire wheels on them! We would get the kits that came with little electric motors and shocks. Wire it up and had a switch box to "hit the switches"!!! We could make em sit on 3 wheels, dogleg, side to side, etc. As a "tween" it was awesome since all my buddies older brothers had the real deal.
Man, those were the days when i could build a model in a day or two....now with a busy life and family it takes forever!

All the models shown look great! I've yet to pickup the Cutlass model but looks like I better.

I built pretty much daily as a youngster...even entered a few shows. I still have almost 30 built on display in the basement here. Got back into it about 15 years ago when my son showed an interest, we bought a bunch of kits, there's probably 35 kits sitting unbuilt in boxes. When he got into the real deal we both stopped building again. I guess if I'm not building the real thing anymore maybe I should get going on some of these.

I found that company yesterday while searching....but didnt see the cutlass hood. I might get the elco hood and make it work since the 2" looks more like an aftermarket real life 4", instead of the outlaw hood.
Caught myself eating up time looking at scale model wheels, fuel cells, all kinds of stuff lol!
