i say if you want duals.. then DO duals.. don't be cheap.. now is the time to do it right... and to be honest.. i dont have a notched cross member and run duals.. well did.. and it wasnt THAT bad..hung alittle low. and i used 2 1/4" no cats.

this year i will do it properly..

really why do the same job 2x... it will cost you more than had you did it right the first time not to mention that y pipes suck.

I do not agree with that at all. Unless you are pushing over 400 HP the Y-Pipe works just fine. This also allows you to do your exhaust in stages when the budget allows and everything can be done in the driveway.

My personal setup started with used TES Headers, then a hollowed out Cat was purchased which I saved until I had the funds for a Mandrel Bent 2.5" exhaust.

Dollar for dollar setting up with headers back is a cheaper route but not by much IMO. If I had a hoist, the money, and access to a welder to notch my crossmember all at the same time that is what I would have done. But I am very happy with my current setup and I know it is good to go when I do the 350 swap

yea im trying to build the car up in stages, first i need to finish off the body then i would like to get into the motor and drivetrain. im working off a very small budget while trying to put myself through school. Plus i would like to try and put the car back to as stock as possible but with my own touches here and there. Is it possible to get the MCSS hangers for the tail pipes at a local auto store, or is it going to be one of those dealer items?

You should be able to use parts store hangers with a little modification. I used the on mine, just remember with the SS tails, they hang below to quarter so try and keep the hangers up more towards the front so you don't see them from the sides.

I hung mine right where the frame straightens out after the rear axle. It seems to work pretty good.

then why not just keep it stock?...

The problem with the MCSS hangers is that they clamp around the pipe. If you have some nice shiny tailpipes on it, it looks pure ghetto. Now, the nice thing is that you can cut the clamp part off the MCSS clamp, and weld the remainder to the pipe and it will look hidden. Just be sure it all sits level, or you will be stuck with an asymmetrical set of pipes that look bad from behind. I happen to think the stock clamps are the best, just not how they attach to the pipes, if that makes any sense. I have universal ones on it right now ( clamped, not welded) and searched for a MCSS to pull them from in the junkyards, and they will be installed soon...if I ever get around to finishing the paint...

Or why not buy a piece of straight pipe, and a ss tailpipe and have someone bend the tailpipe to the specs....return said tailpipe and make your own setup??
