But back to the main topic, don't you guys have driving schools? People here have to take a minimum of about 20 hrs. including Autobahn, night driving, city and safety courses, together with about 24 theory lessons, all with a certified driving school before they're even allowed to go to the test.
Most need 30+ hours on the road.

and thats the difference between your system and ours. your trained to drive a vehicle. we're just a revenue stream. if you can fog a mirror, you can get a license

If he has his permit for a year before taking the road test he is good. You just sign a form.

You guys need to come to Missouri. When mine expired last August, I went in and took the vision test, got my picture taken and paid and was on my way. easy peasy. I waited in line longer than it took from start to finish.

My 17 year old Grandson has his junior learner's permit. We have been giving him driving instruction since last Christmas at Jones Beach ( no traffic!) and then on regular roads. The day after he graduates high school he starts Driver's Ed. Now I read that NY requires him to have 15 hours of documented night time driving before he can take his road test. But NYC, Nassau, and Suffolk all forbid night time driving under any circumstances for permit holders. WTF??!!?? Am I supposed to go upstate to let him drive at night? Oh, and Westchester County forbids him driving at all on their parkways. I emailed DMV and I can't wait to see what kind of ridiculous reply I will get.

I didn’t get the real id they couldn’t verify my birth certificate so I told them to give me a regular license same bullshit but you won’t be able to fly I said no problem I don’t fly so no real I’d for me

The Commonwealth of PA puts them all to shame, I could go on for days how they are constantly screwing people with complete asinine rules they do not have to follow when they screw up. But I will save the rant because I am looking forward to hearing NY's response, looks like PA rubbed off on them for that one.

I don't know if this helps but I came across this where in "LONG ISLAND (NASSAU & SUFFOLK)" a permit holder is permitted to drive from 5 am to 9 pm. Anytime before sunrise or after sunset is nightime....'

I did the Real ID thing and printed out all the forms needed at the house, filled out everything in advance, got the original documents requested, packaged it all up and went down to DMV. Didn't take all that long. They reviewed/copied what they needed right there at the window, and also got my "Veteran" status included with the additional honorable discharge documentation (DD214). Wasn't loaded that day, so I got in and out about the same time it would take to normally get a DL renewed.
