you may want to try to tighten up the band also, check you transmission bolts too they are notorious for backing out

so i dropped the pan no large chunks but there were little metal specks which i would assume are the norm i dont know how much is too much

Sounds like failed roller clutch (sprag). They are prone to failure especially when not upgraded during a rebuild. It is possible for the wheels to turn when no load is on them -- off the ground. A good shop manual will give a chart showing what components are active in each gear. This will help you diagnose what part failed before you tear it apart.

Metal in fluid=toasted trans

i have been told that any time you dropa transmission pan there will be a small amount of metal flake ?? is this not true

Shavings off the clutches are pretty normal. Not a huge amount though. Metal shavings, on the other hand, could be a problem.

Yes

A TH350 I had years ago, WHen I bought the car I dropped the pan to replace the filter and gasket. I was shocked at how much metal shavings were in there. Could have probably filled a styrofoam coffee cup. But I was told that it would be OK. So I buttoned it up and drove it. The transmission never had a problem for the 5 years I drove it. Actually, that is still the best TH350 I've ever had. So don't let the metal shavings scare you.

I have a 15 yr old 350 transmission behind a medium built 432 BBO.... Before that is was behind a 455. Until a few yrs ago I was alway riding it hard when I drove it. Now it gets like 100 to 200 miles a yr on it. When I pulled then pan 5 yrs ago I had stuff you could see wasnt supposed to be there. But yet is runs soo good and still has good hard firm shifts. I would check the vacumm module and fluid level. I had a Ford transmission go south due to a module, it was a 12 dollar part and it fixewd the massive slipping!

try putting the rear up and applying the p-brake. that should replicate the loaded conditions. if the driveshaft turns and the wheels don't--rear diff if the driveshaft doesn't turn--trans you can also try turning the driveshaft by hand and see what you feel.
