There shouldn't be a problem with the extra 3 inches. I'll take it back to the shop who fabricated and installed the SS system 3 years ago. They do some great work and they are not expensive.
jeremy lives close to me so once I have the mufflers installed I'll let him listen to the nice mellow sound and then smack him for his black widow suggestion...😀
Hmmh, I've got [2] 5x11x22 Magnaflows on my 442 with 2 1/2" true dual and they just have a mellow rumble at idle, go almost quiet at H/W speed [65-75]. They sing nicely with your foot to the floor but are relatively quiet otherwise.
I guess it depends on the application. I run dual 3" Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flows on my SS and with my combo it is still fairly loud, especially when crushing carpet. I have a buddy who runs the same mufflers in 2 1/2" duals and a much milder 383 and it is much quieter than mine. I have actually been thinking of trying out the Dynomax Ultra Flows to see how they sound, since I have heard they are a little more mellow.

Hooker Aerochamber. Fairly quiet when light on the throttle and louder at heavy throttle, just sounds great. It matches the 2004R trans I have, nearly soft shifts at light throttle, step on it and the whole car comes to life. Except the pinging 350, will fart around then eventually roar to life. I guarantee you will like the sound, I also have a compact X pipe and all 2.5" pipe with tail pipes behind both rear wheels. The back half is the Hooker cat back exhaust tied into a compact X pipe, custom front pipes off Sanderson 1 5/8" shorty headers.
The 83' Lesabre I bought and pulled the drivetrain out of last year had a mild 350 with headers and 2-1/2" Hooker Aerochambers, I thought they sounded good and were well made but again louder than I wanted so I sold the exhaust with the car at least they didn't sound cheap and "tinny" like some.
