As usual, life happens and things get in the way (taking on a 2nd project didn't help any) but I'm back with another update.
I want to get the turbos mounted so that I can finish the chassis fab work, and in order to do that I have to build the turbo kit - which starts with the headers. The plan at first was easy, grab a set of $300 LS turbo headers, cut the flanges and v-bands off and weld on a set of LT flanges and good v-bands from Motion Raceworks. At first, it looked like it as going to work, then I installed the motor plate and totally screwed myself. Soooooooooo I get to make a set of turbo headers.
I've never made headers before, but I've seen it done a million times. I picked up a header modeling set from Ice Engine Works, bolted on my flanges, locked my collectors in place where I wanted them and went to town. I made sure everything that might be in my way once the car was finished was installed now, things like the dipstick, knock sensors, steering shaft, etc etc etc. Once i had everything modeled up I ordered up a bunch of SS304 180 bends and started the long repetitive process of cutting and tacking. Both sides are similar, but the head sits 1" back on one side vs the other so I made that up with the primaries. Pics and vid below.
The primary tubes are ready to be fully welded, but they don't get tacked to the collector or the flange until after they are fully welded and the star is welded inside the collector. Here is the video as well.
