Ive been working on this little project since August.. im in not real hurry, I know I know its a b*st*rd swap since I was a true blood Olds powered purist..but times have changed, gas prices have changed... the days where I can freely putz around with my 455 powered G-body at an affordable price have gone so now to enjoy more power and economy I needed to fast forward to a newer power plant.. I dont have any real progress pics yet.. Just some basic pics of what im doing with the engine, the mounts (which a lot of people want to know about) and oil pan.. yadda yadda, ask questions as you wish Ill be happy to help!

The BQ code GN th2004r and D5 converter which im using..

Re: My 5.3 Swap

Nice! Im generally not a big fan of light blue on engines (except pontiac) but that looks great! Sad to see that the 455 had to come out but thats pretty much how its becoming unless you got $$$. Moar pics!

Re: My 5.3 Swap

O i promise more pics will be coming!! you can count on that, I wasnt going to do the blue, I was going to paint it black.. But I painted it blue to honor my late 403 which was the 1st V8 I built for this car way back in 2002.. Its hard to believe I've owned this heap for 10yrs now.. time flies when your having fun I guess

Re: My 5.3 Swap

Nah man I like the blue more than black. It seems like every LS engine I see looks pretty much the same and them being black is a big part of it. I think chevy orange or red would look pretty nice also. And for the Olds guys . . . gold  I dont consider the LS or any series of engine nowadays to be brand specific because GM puts them in everything so I dont understand the purist's problems. Oh well, you cant beat the power, mileage, durability and overall practicality of the new engines.

Cmon Beeter! Where is the gawd blessed turbos!?  (I cleaned that up you know) You know the square bore carb is going to flush a good bit of your mileage and driveability down the drain. Not that it is a bad option or route to go just sayin. Add a high stall non lock up and an old three speed with some 4.10s and you will be back where you started. lol

O I know that! It will be tied to my grand national th2004r and 3.08 gear's.. I know holleys aren't best for mileage but it might actually end up with a qjet

Re: My 5.3 Swap

where did you find the 5.3? How much did is cost you? What are you going to use the fire this thing up? I would suspect the MSD6LS? Why Carb instead if the EFI? Im torn on which way to go when I get mine this summer. I too decided on the 5.3 for my 87 442

Re: My 5.3 Swap

I bought it off ebay from a wrecking yard in Michigan, I paid $285 plus shipping which worked out to $410.... I went carb because building a fuel system for a car that originally was carbed would cost me more than what the car is worth, especially if I wanted to do it correctly.. So.. I went with a carb setup, I still had to hunt down a monte carlo 4.3 efi fuel pump which cost me next to nothing...

I applaud your efforts.. but I personally wouldnt butcher an authentic 442, id put it back to stock or build an olds motor for it.. but thats just me, im sure youd screw it together and make it look and run nice..

Re: My 5.3 Swap

Cost you more than your car is worth? Maybe I dunno what I dunno about a proper fuel system for it or maybe I think your car is worth more than it is. I like carbs and FI and I dunno which is best for this swap or your goals but fwiw did you see this thread? viewtopic.php?f=13&t=34546
