Good thing you didn't have to hit the brakes hard on the way home!

Ha yea its pretty big. I drove to atl then back home to columbus. with the back swinging like a trailer back there. Every time the motor moved the car swayed.

I was looking at the picture thinking that if you hit something, the distance between that engine and the dashboard would be measured in inches.

haha o yeah.

So I've been busy working on my car. Here are the updates.

Pulled 305 and trans. Sold motor to a guy to put in his truck. I did everything myself and this is my first time pulling motor. Everything went nicely except for the exhaust because I cut it too far back. Hardest part of the process was the cleanup of my yard.

Took a trip down to hamilton,ga and bought a buick 455 for parts. I got the complete motor for 175. I've been really blessed lately because this is the second time I have gotten a steal of a deal. The 455 had an edelbrock aluminum intake which is almost 300 by itself. The motor has a broken camshaft and broke one of the connecting rods(ouch) I have pics of the massive carnage. It actually looks to have been rebuilt. The pistons look brand spanking new and cylinders have a slight ridge but still have crosshatch marks.

Today I am going to clean the engine bay. Got my cleaning stuff and some paint to get it nice and pretty. Now I just need my trans. The guy I bought the 430 from says if I bring him the 455 he has a nicely rebuilt th350 for a trade. O yea the guy I bought the 455 from had a th400. As much as I want a th400 I dont want to go through the process of changing crossmembers and driveshaft reworked.

Also got my grant(no wheel no steal kit) installed and working. Probably the coolest thing to me.

I have pictures but my camera cord is not working. I'm going to run the numbers on the block and heads to see what they came out of.

Where did you get this brace? I haven't seen that for sale in a long time.

Yea I made the brace. Made one for the front and back. Got the idea from that exact same picture but from another site. I bought the metal from a metal shop and then cut it at an angle and drilled it at school.

Re: My 78 Regal Build Thread. Loads Of Pics

Well I dont have much to update. Motor and th350 trans are in the car. Got the trans from friend at school that said I could have it if I fixed some scratches in his car(Man gotta love networking). Some know from my post that the frame mounts are the only thing that is really holding me up. Still have to get alternator, starter, and rad hoses too. I have loads of pics but dumb camera cord is not working.

But engine bay, trans, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, resevoirs are all painted. Still debating if I want to keep the valve covers red or do them aluminum color also, along with the pullies. Might stick with the red though. I also junked my th250(for the people that said go th350) along with some other scrap metal. Only got twenty bux for it all but the rest of the scrap was free and I nobody was going to buy the th250. And only junked it because I got good deal on the th350 😀

Re: My 78 Regal Build Thread. Loads Of Pics

Well finally got my pictures off my card. Camera cord has a short in it so I need another one. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Old trusty getting ready to come out.

After lots of cleaning and scrapping. Note the fender wheels for comparison to the painted ones. So dirty they wouldnt even clean right.

Hmm. Now how am I gonna get this out the laundry room?

Picture067.jpg

Picture072.jpg

Left the mounts in for the time being for contrast effect of the new paint.

Picture073.jpg

I started with rust proof spray bomb but quickly found out it would take too many cans. I went a bought some rustoleum in the quart form and slapped it on with a paint brush. It has brush lines but looks way better than being old and dirty.

Picture074.jpg

Hmm. Now I need a brake booster to look nice and new with the engine bay.

Picture078.jpg

Painted my edelbrock intake from the 455 and my trans I got from a friend in exchange for some bodywork. Gotta love networking. The color is rustoleum 2000 degree, cast aluminum with clear coat. 😀

Picture080.jpg

MMMMM...beefyy. I borrowed my friend motor hoist which turned out to be a total piece of crap. I found a guy around the street with one. Paid him 40 and we dropped the motor and transmission in. Cant beat that deal. Also note the wrong frame mounts attached to engine. Those are v6 that DO NOT WORK.
