Car looks awesome! did a nice job with it!
Where did u get the silver paint for the bottom/bumpers?
I took mine off and took the bumper guards off and welded in the holes for a cleaner look and still need
to get the paint.

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

Thanks for your comment! The whole car is painted with dupont chromabase, and cleared with dupont nason high image urethane clear.

I used 99k (black) for my upper, and the lower is the stock GM code 12 (silver). I got my paint from Car Quest, it was pretty reasonable. I believe for a quart of the silver I paid $97 but didnt use the whole thing since it gets reduced 1:1 when you spray it, just wanted some extra for future touch ups if needed.

When I painted my bumpers, since they were chrome, I scuffed them with 180 on a D/A then primed them with dupont self etch primer, then layed a coat of dupont ultra productive primer filler over the etch primer, then water sanded the primer/filler with 320 grit paper, then based them, and finally clear. I have never had a problem with the paint chipping off the chrome underneath and have put almost 4000 miles on the car since I painted them.

Its been a while since I posted anything up on here but I finally got around to doing the engine swap on the 442. Took a couple days to accomplish but shes in and fired on the first try with no problems.

Nice (as well as the Ford in the background, is that a Fairlane?) & sounds really good. May I ask which exhaust did you end up going with?

Oh, good luck with the oil filter removal - a real PITA. I sigh at every oil change but then I fire it up, listen to the exhuast and lope and say, "Yeah, it was worth it".

Re: My 86 442: update 11-2-10

I ended up going with the Summit 2.5 inch header back exhaust, with the turbo mufflers provided in the kit. It required some slight mods to get it to fit well but I'm ok with it, Now I need to get some long chrome tips to finish it off, I'm not a huge fan of the regular steel at the ends.

And yeah about that oil filter haha it really does suck, I cant wait to change it and probably spill oil everywhere. But then again if you wanna play you gotta pay right? 8)

As for the For in the background its my buddies 1967 Galaxie 500 with a 289 2bbl and 3 on the tree, manual drum brakes at all 4 corners, and manual steering. Talk about a stripper model!!! Haha but its a real nice crusin car more comfortable than the 442 i won't lie.

NIce build! But I gotta ask, whats with the green engine? Is it part of some kind of theme?

Re: My 86 442: update 11-2-10

Not really any part of a theme, it was more of like my buddy saying hey why not be different and put an unusual color on it and i said hey why not haha. If anyone asks though I just tell them is my way of going green

Yeah, I had a little more room when I didn't have the convertor cover on, was able to just slip by. But now, I stack up a couple of shop towels on the header because like you said, spill-city. Then trying to install the new filter after pre-oiling it, can only put a little in the filter or again, will spill on the header.

Stripper Galaxie 500, nice!! Well, that is until you have to use the brakes or parallel park LOL!!

Re: My 86 442: update 11-2-10

Damn dude, i guess i haven't been on here in a while because i never saw this build before. lol

I'm glad you kept it olds powered! 8) only complaint is the color of the block

I have the same exhaust as you, but for some reason yours sounds a lot louder... maybe because i have turndowns. idk. do you have pics of the mods you did to the exhaust? because i'm unhappy with how low mine hangs and i really wanna fix it.

Re: My 86 442: update 11-2-10

Oh, yeah that galaxie is a fun car to ride in lol, it looks like my buddy gets quite the workout driving it haha. We get stopped by tons of people around here when we take the two cars places. We had two guys take pics of them parked next to eachother after they taked to us for about 20 min haha.

And about the engine 3x thats the same engine I came and got from you guys with my buddy haha. He's the one who said paint it green and I was like eh what the hell why not be different. You guys werent kidding when you said it was real clean inside and in good shape! when I pulled the heads off that night I found it was bored .030 over and has sealed power pistons in it. So I left the bottom end alone, I changed the cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers, picked up different heads that I had ported, and the performer rpm intake. Shes real strong haha.

As for the exhaust I dont have any pictures, but I can take some for you tomorrow in the daylight, to show you how I hung it.
