Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

The 5A 307 heads would be an excellent direct bolt on, if rebuilt too factory spec's with just surfacing them no more then .010, everything from the roller cam engine will fit with no problems or modifications. But as stated earlier the full benefit would be using the intake and exhaust manifolds that go with the 5A heads or going with aftermarket intake and headers.

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

Anything on which exhaust would be best to use? When i was looking, I saw that companies primarily list their exhausts for g-bodies with sbc's, not olds motors. Will these exhausts work with the olds motor too?

Hey man love the car, i got and 85 442. Where did you get the brushed aluminum for the inside and the stripe kit? I need to repaint mine it looks like crap. U could paint mine for $$$$! great lookin car man good thing that girl didnt mess it up to bad

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

Well done! For exhaust, hedman headers seem to fit the olds pretty good. I have a 2 1/2" homemade equalizer (H) pipe, with a pair of flowmaster knock offs, and turn downs. Don't know of any direct bolt system, which is why I made my own, ugly but it works for now  .

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

Man that car looks great.I love the thread...I am running the Summit dual exhaust kit on my car and it's 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipes and the kit comes with turbo mufflers..Those are going soon though for Flowmasters....and no matter what motor is in the car, the dual exhaust should be pretty much a bolt on deal to the header flanges....

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

Thanks for your comments guys! It was a ton of work to get the car back to what it is now. Started fixing the damage on a monday morning at the shop and worked daily from 8 am until almost midnight for the rest of that week. All in all was able to do it in 6 days, which included pulling the frame, straightening the quarter, replacing the broken parts, putting the silver on the bottom, wet sanding and buffing it, and doing the stripes. Im pretty happy with the way it turned out, not to bad for being 19 and doing all the body work myself...

As for the stripes, its not a kit. All of the gold stripes on my car were layed out by hand one at a time. took about 6 hours to do and it was alot cheaper than buying the kit. However the 442 decals came from Phoenix Graphix. They also sell the complete stripe kit for the car for $189+ shipping. theyre super fast and I would buy from them again.

The brushed aluminum on the dash are inserts I bought from buickgn.com They stick on over the woodgrain, and work very well.

I think I am going to roll with the summit exhaust, the car isnt going to see winter so there isnt much of a need for it to be stainless.

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

That sucks you got hit like that, but not only did you make out pretty good with the insurance company, the car looks great after you got it back together. Definately like that you put the silver back on the lower half.
Good work and thanks for not parting it out like a lot of people would have...

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

Thanks for your comments Blake. Parting out the car was never an option haha. Someway some how I was going to get it back together and driving again. Now within the next two weeks she'll be gettin an Olds 350, .030 over. Usin the rest of the money from the insurance co. to build the motor and clean up the engine bay a little. 😀

Re: My 86 442: update 8-15-10

Talk to an Olds vender such as BTR Performance about how to ie bearing clearences, heads options, cams, etc on building your Olds engine even it you don't contract him to build it. The info will get you better results both power and longevity wise and may save you some head aches. The engine is not particularly hard or expensive to built power with just (thank gawd) different than another sbc1.
