Very nice what did the head work set you back, the big valves and bowl blend will be worth a 2 to 3 tenths.

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

3x: Yes these are going on the 350 I picked up from your buddy. So far the motors been great, just doing upgrades as funds allow. Only thing I havent touched is the bottom end.

Burnhard: The head work set me back just under $1700 for everything including gaskets, and alternator bracket. If you have any other questions just let me know.

Heres some more pictures of what I've been up to for when I do the swap:

M/T valve covers painted black and gold, heads painted.

Picked up a 600 cfm holley double pumper, electric fuel pump, black anodized AN lines, braided stainless line, brackets for the T.V. cable, electric choke conversion, ect. That place is like heaven haha!

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

Always thought that was a great carb for a small cube motor that spends most of its time above 4,000 rpms like a roundy round car. If you don't like it you might have Sparkys carb or someone like that set your q-jet up for your combination. It might lose 5hp to the holley up top but pick it up in the lower rpms and make for whole lot nicer driver especially with the electric choke and changing weather. More fuel injection like and less tempermental than the little holley.

Did you ever look at doing an in tank electric fuel pump setup with a GN tank? Cheaper easier quieter more descrete and street safe compared to an old out of tank gravity fed electric conversion with sump or cell. No pump hanging between your tank and bumper to send you up in flames the next time some girl rear ends you either. It's one of the benefits of a gbody over an older style car that never came with fuel injection or an in tank setup.

You just need a GN tank and sending unit such as available on eBay motors for cheap. http://WWW.Racetronix.com has the pump & plug n play set up just look under Buick GN. And Summit Jegs etc for an inexpensive roll of fuel line for the return and a return style fuel pressure regulator such as the Mallory 4309. No cutting or welding required. No crash hazzard just quiet safe proper fuel supply like a new Corvette. I used this exact set up in my 509ci 442 with a q-jet to be street safe and be able to feed it for 115mph quartermile runs.

http://WWW.robertpowersmotorsports.com also did this to feed his hard charging 455 powered Cutlass and has good pics on his site. Your car is really looking good bud. You have done a great job and should be proud of it. Did Bill suggest a cam to go with them heads?

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

Dog, you bring up a good point about the GN fuel set up. I may have to look into it in the future. The car is getting more serious than I ever thought it would. Not necessarily a bad thing though. Bill said to run the current 280H cam I have and see how it performs. He didn't think it would be bad as long as I advanced it a little. He was great to work with. Also thanks for the compliments on the car. It's definitely not perfect and has it's flaws but I'm ok with it. Just means I'm not as afraid to drive it, ya know?

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

Yea I do and they are meant to be driven er enjoyed not just taken to a car show or spending all their time sitting on a trailer waiting to go to the race track. Part of why I am such a big fan of overdrive transmissions. Actually I bought my cutty for two reasons one was the GN had become a little to collectable to be whiping donuts with. And two I have always liked the Olds and always wanted to do a big block car. I started with an 88 Cutty and when it got totaled I found the 442 and saved it. I was looking for a 455 Olds when I ran across the 500 Caddy and am glad I did. It was ridiculous fun to drive. 8)

Well you might "look at it" before you use your new electric as I think Summit will skip the restock fee if you apply that credit toward a fuel pressure regulator and fuel line.

PS I'm digging the new valve covers and the new paint scheme idea for the engine bay. You might search the forum for engine pics for some ideas. There was an Olds 455 engine bay done on here a month or three ago that was tastefully done. It looked professional like something BTR would do on a budget. Not overdone or high dollar bling or everything one color.

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

Thank you, to give credit where it is due, I actually got the idea for the valve covers from fe3xclone iirc. The bare cast aluminum look of the covers wasn't doing it for me. Plus the covers are old and either needed a good polishing or to be painted. I want to make the engine bay of the car classy this time around, no more green my days of that are over. I was able to attend the Adirondack Nationals in Lake George NY this past September and I took away a lot of Ideas for both the 442, and 72 Chevy C10 I'm working on. Speaking of BTR again, I just got this in the mail:

Fuel pump block off plate. Bill makes some really nice stuff, and for $20 sent to my door I'm not complaining.

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

hey whats up. project is coming along nicely. good job.i just wanted to throw out there that an easy horsepower mod in the stages that you are in and i know you just got heads back but take and mill the exhaust flange down so the center ports have the center didvider actually didviding the ports.kinda of an old trick i know but i have built several olds motors as well and can account for 25 horse min on the dyno. just something cheap that will give results. you may be aware of this and chose not to do it if so sorry to offend.

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

I would ask btr about the exhaust side of the head milling flat. The heads that we ran in the past always had the exhaust face milled flat. The engine ran well with this old school mod. So I would say X2 if BTR gives it okay.

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

i have 5 heads at the machine shop now getting new valves and brass guides done as well. how much did the machining run you?

Re: My 86 442: update 10-5-11

Peter, heres the bill from BTR.

I have heard about the exhaust flange mod. I told Bill what I was looking for power wise and just let him do his thing to achieve the goal. I'm good with just rolling with what he did.
