Check your RPO label underneath your trunk lid. The rear end codes start with 'G'. Make sure to check the vin on the label matches the vin on your car.

Rear end codes for G-bodies:

GH2-2.29 ratio
GM8-2.56 ratio
GT4-3.73 ratio
GU1-2.41 ratio
GU2-2.73 ratio
GU4-3.08 ratio
GU5-3.23 ratio
G72-2.14 ratio

G80-limited slip differential

The RPO labels are only on '84-'88 G-bodies... for '78-'83, you'll have to either be lucky enough to find your build sheet, if it's still intact, or order a vehicle invoice from GM for $50. I got one for my 442, as well as a restoration packet, that was full of info, including the codes for all the available options, and I was able to completely breakdown my RPO label.

update so far!! cleaned frame only to realize the fracture in cross member is a bit longer, so for right now i put a reinforcement weld around the upper a arm mount and were doing the rest of the frame this week, need all new balljoints and complete steering linkages, car has never been maintained in like 15 yrs lol

ok so far we fixed the crack, and painted the front part of the frame, pulled out the old rear end cleaned all the surface rust, replaced the brake lines on the axle putting on new shoes, cleaned all the old oil and resealed the pumpkin, found out it has Richmond gears 373..not bad for 300 bucks, oh and aluminum drums..will be installing in this week once i receive the bag mounts..damn feels like its never gonna get done..
