My first day back to work

school just started and the threat of a strike started the same day.....when I was a kid the threat of a strike was all about the strap and my hand...😢
Steve,
How many of us, growing up, got our asses whipped with a strap...or by hand if we acted up in school...or at home. Old school discipline. In today's times a parent could be brought up on charges for whacking their little angels. Sign of the times.

As recently as when I lived in New Orleans in the mid-2000s, corporal punishment was still allowed if the parents signed a permission slip. At that time it was one of, but not the, last states to do so

Back in grammar school, I do recall some of my fellow classmates getting smacked occasionally....or getting our mouths washed out with soap. Not like we didn't deserve it.... 😉
Teachers are forbidden to do these things today.

I remember when I started grade school in Ga, they still paddled as my brother was well acquainted with the paddle. When we moved back to Pittsburgh & went to Catholic school, the nuns there still wacked you with a ruler. My knuckles still cringe at that thought.

Did you go to St. Cyril?

I always heard about the "sadistic nuns" and their mean *ss brass rulers. "Hold out your hands"....Whack! 😢
My wife would tell me some stories about the guys who always got into mischief and how they suffered the wrath of the deadly nuns. Certain ones were always disciplined like clockwork.

Annunciation that is/was on North Charles St. The church is/was on Norwood Ave. Can't remember who has the buildings now.

I know right where you are, that church has been closed a long time, probably 20 years. The Charles Street valley is a rough area.

I went to St. Cyril up until second grade, then to St Sebastian's through fourth grade when we moved out of the city. Then public school.
