My first day back to work

The Charles Street valley is a rough area.
Back in the early '80's it was OK, by the time I got to H.S. you limited yourself to be in the area & they really were not fans of "blue" or "red". I knew a few guys & helped them with car stuff so I was able to move around with out an issue or deal with things getting messed with. Today I'll be locked & cocked cause the current guys wouldn't care that I knew their family or not.

Fortunately I lived up the road a little and I was young enough to never really have to deal with it, but I don't even like driving through there.

I just have to ask, did the rulers and paddles actually stop you guys back then? Did one kid get swatted and everyone became perfect little angels for the rest of the year?

I'll have to ask my wife, she was the one that went to Catholic schools. That's a good question though. Did they smarten up after getting whacked on a regular basis? Did they learn their lesson? I would think they did after awhile, unless they got something out of it.

California is trying to pass a law that students cannot be suspended if they disrupt the class or defy teachers......that will only give more power to a disruptive kid and all the other kids loose....:wtf:

My gym teacher in junior High School had a wiffle ball bat with him during gym, if you were out line he didn't send you to the office you got hit with it on the legs behind the knees. It hurt and he didn't care that he was my sister god father, the girls didnt get hit just the boys. I did keeps us in line.

Obviously behavior begins in the home, and these days it's hard to parents to spend the proper amount of time with their kids and they rely on the schools too much for discipline. I was not the perfect kid by any means but I only was kicked out of one class and suspended once during HS (different story in middle school).

Anyway OP, good luck and keep up the hard work. You guys dont get enough credit.

my grandkids who are in school are in a rural area and all the parents have agreed that none of the kids get cell phones until they are at a certain grade level. My son an dhis wife limits the kids on how much they use their I pads and they have chores to take care of the chickens and the other animals. I help to try to help to keep the boys busy with odd jobs like grabbing me a beer and popcorn...
