my friend had a really nice 99 camaro and it was hit and totaled a couple weeks ago. the other person's insurance is only wanting to offer him 7K for it but it was in very good condition just prior to the accident. i told him parting it out would get him more money. would it?

the engine runs fine, its just front end body damage, the rear took the brunt and is beyond repair though. so the powertrain can be taken out and sold, the interior aside from the broken driver seat is in excellent condition. im also interested in getting the brakes off of it.

what would a fair price be for the motor and transmission with wiring harness, computer, etc as a whole unit? the mileage is 168K but it ran perfect. mechanically it was perfect and probably still is. he said the engine fired right up after the accident.

how much for the front brakes? back brakes? i'm already looking to upgrade my brakes with the C5/LS1 kit from flynbye but if my friend parts out the car ill just buy his brakes and just get the brackets to bolt them on and have my own rotors turned down into hubs.

the car was worth way more than 7K prior to the accident and it was the other person's fault, he was rearended and at a complete stop at a red light. so i'm not sure where they're getting 7K value from. is it worth more to part it out or for him to get a lawyer and fight them on it? lawyers cost money so whatever he does get he'll have to give some to the lawyer and i dont think he should go that route. i think he can get more than 7K parting the car out.

ake the 7k dont think u will get 7k for motor trans and int other stuff is not really worth much.. JMO

the engine package--probably around $1500-1800 would be good..168k is high mileage..also depending if its a manual or automagic

I'd probably take the money up front instead of parting it out..unless he wants to build a project car in the future hes got a perfect engine right there

There is no way you could get 7 grand in parts. Once the motor and transmission are gone theres not a whole lot left worth big bucks. 168k is pretty high mileage, id guess $1-1300 for the motor and trans. Also whats done to the camaro that makes it worth 7+k? A 98-02 Camaro Z28, good shape, less miles than your buddy's goes for 5-6k at tops. Im not trying to be a dick in any way im just wondering.

just cause they offered him 7k doesn't mean he can't get them to increase the amount. It would help if had receipts for repairs he had done to the car...then again there should be a buy back option on the car as well so if he can sell the parts for more than the buy back amount he could make some money

7k is good for that car. Is it a z28? Also like pontiac gp said theres probably a buy back option. I totaled a 99 buick riviera and got $5800 for it and bought it back for 500 dollars then sold it wrecked for $1100. Initial investment in the car was 2k. Tell your friend to be smart, take the 7k buy it back if its not over a 1000-1500 and then part it out from there, make a few more bucks.
