This is about it until I get the input to output shaft bearing cage. Then, it can all go back together. I dressed and faced the other reverse gear- can't find'em, grind'em!!!!

OUCH!! The iron mid-plate was one of the pieces that I threw into my own Muncie build because the countershaft had gone for a walk on the previous owner and he decided to go auto-stick. Surprised that the Auto Gear piece did not have the hole for the 3/8ths bolt drilled in it. Possible that the sleeve did not seat due to a burr on the shaft or on the sleeve itself. Dremel tool is your friend. Think most of what is now in my own 4-speed came from either Auto-Gear or from Texas. Like I commented some time back I did go with the higher tooth count 1st gear and matching counter cluster c/w 1" shaft. Oh, and a Hurst Comp-plus. Did look at that supercase for Muncies that was being offered. Nice and beefy in all the right places, particularly the ears. $$$$$$.

Thanks! T-10 or M20? It's a toss up, isn't it? Do either have new gears in them? After eating all the teeth off 1st in the burnout box, I went with new. I have a low mileage M22 set, I'd make a deal on. I only took it out to get a steeper 1st. Doesn't the T-10 have a 2.88 1st?

4 speeds are all an exercise in compromise. 4th is usually 1:1, so you pick your rear gear for your desired highway speed. I ordered a 9" with 3.70s, then decided I had to have straight cut gears (for noise mainly). I bought an M22 gearset, but didn't realize how bad the 2.20 1st would be out of the hole. I switched it out to the 22W gears with a 2.52 1st to get closer to the 10:1 launch ratio rule of thumb.

10:1 rule? Never paid attention to that then again I got 430 gears . Is the 2.20 that bad? I'm wanting to peice a muncie together something to hold some good power ,was gonna buy a new gear set due to age of these parts and you buy new for what people want for the originals

Just multiply it out.
2.20x3.70=8.14
2.52x3.70=9.324

If you're at 2.42x4.30=10.406. That'll be awesome on the strip, but how high can you comfortably spin it on the highway? I usually run the 468 Olds between 3-3500 which ends up being 65-68mph or there about.

Eh I can cruise 55-60 around 3000+ but this car won't ever see highways just cruise around town car cruises and such and trailer it to the strip ,I want to try try a set of 410s see how the motor re acts I got 350s too

Got the parts to fix my $32 mistake. That bearing cage used to be $5-6, now it's $23. It does seem to be a good reproduction; Nate says they were done from the original prints.
