Go here- http://www.policeny.com/sitemap.html open "motor patrol" and see the real deal. And yes, NYC was and is, a DUMP! But we love it! (check out the Wounded Warriors motorcade-NYC at it's best!)

Yeah, I forgot that they used those shitty K-cars...WTF were they thinking?? I think it was due to a matter of economics at the time...they were cheap by every sense of the word.
I certainly couldn't imagine them being used as a pursuit car.... I think my bicycle could outrun one.

Mark,
Thanks for posting the NYPD site. I really enjoyed the old photos. They made me almost feel nostalgic.

there was one Quebec Provincial Police car west of Montreal to the Ontario border back when they used K cars. I lived in Montreal and worked in a club on the weekends west of Montreal close to the Ontario border. I was late one nite so I was travelling pretty quick in my white/maroon 74 Grand Prix that have a 400 Pontiac engine that was modified a bit and the suspension was nicely improved with 2.92 rear end gear I never noticed passing the cop but he showed up at the bar at least 10 minutes after I got there. All the cops on that route knew my car and me from bouncing at the club. He said he clocked me at 142 mph so I said thanks for letting me know and that I will never lend my car out to anyone again...

Steve,
I was getting ready for you to say that the K-car had a turbocharged little power plant and it caught up to you... That would have been a good story...although, I still like your story😉

Those cops were embarrassed to drive the K car. The cop that clocked me knew I was driving it but they have to stop the car with the driver in it. The "friend" who was driving my car had left the bar by the time the cop got there...back then it was a whole different world when it came to cops

If you really want to get nostalgic about NYC, check out "Naked City" on the Decades channel. It is a series of cutting edge (at the time) police stories back around '59 to '62. One episode finished on a rooftop and as the camera panned away, you see that they are on River Ave, right across the street from the old Yankee Stadium. Many big stars we know and love came away and as a kid I watched it all the time. Of course the cars are there too. "There are eight million stories in the Naked City- this has been one of them".
