Hey everyone! I'm currently in need of some help ... I just took my 83 Monte 305 apart because I'm getting ready for a fresh 355 and TH350 swap. Well, what I'm wondering is I have so many wires and harnesses in my engine bay...what can I get rid of just to run the bare bones 355 with little to no wires. I know I'll need HEI wiring and starter and alternator wiring. I'm just stumped on what I'll have to do to get my stock ignition cylinder setup to still fire and run my new setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also since I won't have a computer, is a msd ignition box necessary?

An old style HEI for a non computer controlled engine will work for ignition. Starter, ignition, alternator, AC and gauge wiring will remain the same, The Battery + and Tach leads from the old CCC distributor are not in the computer harness and will be reused . The computer harness comes from the firewall, behind the passenger side inner wheel well. You can unplug all of its connectors from the engine and transmission. You can also remove it and the ECU from the car.

Not fair man. Your question going unanswered for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon hardly warrants 'nobody helping'
This place isn't a call center, people have lives to live, not every member knows the answer to your question either.

I get that you want to work on your car and feel you need an answer to do so, but calling out the whole forum for your own lack of patience is bs

If I would have seen the 3rd post I would not have left a reply. I'll leave it up so the next person can use the search function to find these simple answers...

That maybe true but there aren't any Nobody"s on this forum, we are all a somebody and this forum is the most helpful I have ever seen

I do apologize. Yesterday was a stressful and frustrating day. I do appreciate your help. I was just looking for a quick reply. But thank you for the response because I do appreciate it. But im having trouble figuring out why one of the thick red wires coming off of a fuseable link at the starter goes to some of the HVAC harness. Im stumped...

Is your wiring hacked? If it's all still there the 305 and 350 use all the same wiring. None of your starter or ignition wires are affected by the swap or computer removal.
