If you have the big block frame pads then it should be simple. As stated I used v6 mounts. I positioned my motor to sit in the same spot as the the original sbc 305 and I only put the motor and trans in ONE time. The only problem I had was the buick motor is taller so I had to cut the middle bracing out of the hood to fit an air cleaner.

We had put a Buick 455 into a 79' LeSabre using the TA mounts that were supposed to be a perfect drop-in. They weren't. We ended up using the paint trick Pontiacgp mentioned and drilling our own holes. But when I put my 301 into the 83' Bonnewagon, the holes were there! Even though they quit using the 301 in 81'. So maybe the holes are there, you may get lucky. Either way, it is so much easier to sort it out with a bare block, so you can see what's up. I used a bare shortblock and a dummy trans to get it all located properly.

I guess that all makes since. I do have a extra buick 455 blocl I could use to get started. I have the oil pan off of it but that shouldn't matter right.

No oil pan doesn't matter, but be sure there is clearance for it. And you can then make all your adjustments without fighting the heads/manifolds/accessories,etc. Plus you can easily lay a bubble level on the top of the block for a perfect job. I can't take credit for this idea, I read it in a great book called "Practical Engine swapping", a goldmine of information.

but you can take credit for reading the book....which is something that some people don't bother doing these days

For the Buick 455 in my Cutlass, I didn't have to drill any holes in the frame. I used the holes in the frame that are closest to the front of the car and the now defunct Poston Buick frame mounts for a Skylark. It took a while to get the frame mounts bolted in, but after that everything fell into place. Poston also sent a diagram of which holes to use in the G-Body frame. I'm sorry, but I can't put my hands on the copy of the diagram right now cause I'm in Iraq and it's in GA.

offtopic...QDub, stay safe in Iraq and thanks for protecting our butts over here...

and for installing engine mounts it's alot easier if the lower control arms are removed...

Thanks guys for all your help. I'll post some pics soon. Well waiting impatiently for frame mounts to come in. But they won't arrive until Monday or Tuesday. :bump:

Wow- Qdub24-I didn't know you were Active Duty. Stay safe! My son-in-law did 2 tours and escaped without a scratch. He said "we shoot first-apologize later".

True statement. I was just too lazy to take them off.

Thanks for the support guys. I've been active duty since Jan '09. Probably part of the reason my Cutlass isn't done yet. Bonnewagon your son-in-law and I share the same belief in that situation.
