I also adjusted the valve lash about 3 weeks ago. 3/4 turn past zero lash. I usually do 1/4 to 1/2 turn but decided to go a little more this time. I don't think this is my problem.

Just wne thru the same thing today with my buddys 69 Z28. They were havin the same problem yer havin. Check for spark at the wires with a spark tester, if ya have spark its time to question how long the fuel is in the tank. The Z had poor fuel form sittting all winter and from them trying it so much and soakin the plugs they became fouled. Hope that helps.

Some new fuel and a set of new plugs and a tune and she will break the tires goin into fourth>

do you have another coil you could try?

Interesting thought. No I don't but I could ask around.

We need a little more info. It is cranking over, but no spark? Have you checked for spark?

It sounds like it is drowning with fuel. I would disconnect the fuel line for now (or pull the fuse if you have an elec fuel pump) You can idle it with just a tiny amount of gas from a gas can or something like a piece of fuel line and a small funnel. It can probably idle with less than 1 psi of fuel pressure. My car will idle for 30 seconds with just the fuel in the primary float bowl.

Too wet of a plug and a weak spark and will not run. When you drove it was there black smoke? Is there a build up of black soot in the tailpipe? If fuel is absolutely dumping into the cylinders as you suggest, you could even hydro-lock a cylinder with unburned fuel. If the motor was locked in this way it wouldn't crank at all.

As for timing, even if the timing is WAY off it should still fire and run (run like crap probably, but still run). I've seen cars even two teeth off on the dist still run, but run very, very poorly.

If you are cranking it down to a dead battery, you might be ruining the starter.

Nice!!
I can try plugs and fresh gas.
I think the gas is about 5 months old. Need to order the plugs No one around here stocks the Autolites that dart says to use with their heads.

I am getting spark but who knows how strong it is. I will check it again. It must be sparking because I got it to run. But tebarely. It wouldn't keep running but would run a little with my foot to the floor. There was no black smoke when it was running around the block.

Mechanical fuel pump. I can pinch the hose to stop the fuel.
I think I need to look more closely at the plugs.

It's not dumping fuel but I did change the oil once already because there was gas in it.

old fuel wont run, ive let fuel sit for a month in a 5 gallon can and it went bad because of the ethanol. get some good fuel in there and spray starter fluid in the carb and see if she kicks over.
