I also adjusted the valve lash about 3 weeks ago. 3/4 turn past zero lash. I usually do 1/4 to 1/2 turn but decided to go a little more this time. I don't think this is my problem.

It sounds like it is drowning with fuel. I would disconnect the fuel line for now (or pull the fuse if you have an elec fuel pump) You can idle it with just a tiny amount of gas from a gas can or something like a piece of fuel line and a small funnel. It can probably idle with less than 1 psi of fuel pressure.
Too wet of a plug and a weak spark and will not run. Even if the timing is way off it should still fire and run (like crap probably, but still run). I've seen cars even two teeth off on the dist still run, but run very, very poorly.
When you drove it was there black smoke? Is there a build up of black soot in the tailpipe? If fuel is absolutely dumping into the cylinders as you suggest, you could even hydro-lock a cylinder with unburned fuel. If the motor was locked it wouldn't crank at all.
If you are cranking it down to a dead battery, you might be ruining the starter.
