Hey guys, I'm pretty new to car scene and decided to take on a gbody for my first build. This car sat since 98 and i was able to get the stock 4.3 running after a few days. Just needed some tlc(new fluids, battery, etc.). I had first planned on getting the car running as is and then just driving it, but I changed my mind and have decided on an engine swap. I'm leaning towards an LS but also thought about rebuilding a 350 block I have from a 95 silverado... Which do you guys prefer? I would like to be able to drive it frequently after the build and don't want to go crazy with HP.

Welcome from Iowa. If it has a 4.3 in it now a 350 will drop right in. I did not think they put 4.3 in those cars. I do believe that the 4.3 cars all had fuel injection. If you were looking for high horsepower I would go with a LS. If you are inexperienced and don't have a lot of money go with a 350 for now. Good luck with what ever you do and don't be afraid to ask us questions.

If I were to go with a 350, cost wise, should I rebuild or just buy a crate?

Depends on your skill level and what shape the used engine is in. Could be cheep or expensive. I would take the used engine a part and have some one look it over, unless it is a good runner you pulled and you just want to stick it in and roll.

Thanks man, I definitely need to start breaking down the used engine and hope it’s in good shape
