I love the Buick 455 and seriously would put one in a Regal if I had the the opportunity. In fact I owned a 71 Stage 1. I have access to a couple Buick 455s now should any members want one just PM me. I know the pros & cons of that motor well. But the only department that the 455 had it over on the turbo 6 was sound and simplicity. Been a GS Club member since the late 80s and the little 6 is stronger faster etc etc and has had the fastest race classes at the Nationals since the early 90s. IMO your statements only make you an idiot.

http://www.v8buick.com has a section titled V-8 Buick powered Regals dedicated to this and the small block to Gbody Regal swap. Oh yea all comments in good humor.

Hahaha ok chief, im not obsessed over the turbo v6, i just respect and it enjoy it for what it is. Ive had plenty of small block chevys (and not just some sh*t 350 with an oversized/outdated cam and junk heads) that have been plenty fast and reliable. Ive had big block chevys, large displacement olds, small block fords, and 4 and 6 cylinder "junk" as well. Everyone has a different flavor and i respect that. I enjoy my 400 horse smog era v6. Its good on gas, reliable, fuel injected, and its a daily driver car. Sure, my 383 monte (10.28 in the 1/4) would smoke the turbo regal all day, but i enjoy the regal for what it is. Not saying v6 is the way to go, but being a little diverse never hurts. Technology is a good thing these days, and power adders are very fun to play with. When cars come to the track on trailers, with big blocks, 4.88 gears, idle at 1300 with an outdated solid cam (basically unstreetable) cars, and get ripped by a turbo buick that drove to the track with the a/c i do get a warm chuckle.

FYI my next project for my somerset is a 6.0 ls engine with a single turbo set up, so maybe if i "jet" it properly it will have 600-700 horsepower and be just as reliable and drivable as any modern car.

When you get your 455 together and get passed by a gold regal that goes from sounding like a "tractor" to sounding like a jet plane dont forget to wave haha.

All comments are in good fun as well

I'm wondering about that turbo that will take a 190 hp 350 to 750 hp with just a bit of tweaking...

Dont hate on the turbo v6 haha, my Turbo regal is in the 11's with the right bolt ons and mods (still stock short block and heads) on pump gas. Its a reliable daily drivable car with all options and good gas mileage. Those engines can make some great power. Even the series 2 supercharged 3.8's have plenty of go, i had a 96 riviera supercharged with some bolt ons and that thing flew nice for a DD. There is even alot of 4 cylinders that make insane power, my srt-4 put down 392 horse to the "front" wheels with bolts on and a stock engine. Thats not even counting the DSM and Subaru engines. Believe me im a gbody/gm guy at heart, but experience has proven that 4 and 6 cylinder engines and front wheel drive cars can be as fast and reliable. Not trying to start anything, but just saying

lol...I don't care how fast your V6 Regal is bro...its still a V6 car that sounds like a farm tractor with an auger on the back that's struggling while drilling a fence post hole in some wet red clay. If you were to give me that car, I would promptly remove the V6 and sell it to the nice little fat lady the runs the scalehouse at my local scrap yard. I really would...lol.

I never understood why people obsess so much over these engines. In reality, all they are was just some bottom of the barrel generic powerplant that GM produced for little of nothing during the peak of the smog era. There is nothing particularly special about the 231....unless you consider the fact that they make great boat anchors to be 'special'. Take a 90hp V6 and put a big turbo on it and jet it properly and you're going to make 400hp - big deal. Take a 190hp 350 and put a big turbo on it and jet it properly and you're going to make 750hp. PLUS, the parts are half as cheap. Just an example there...but I think I got my point across.

Lastly, please note that ALL my comments are always in good humor. Don't take it personally...lol.

i would buy it lol

So if I took that turbo and put it on my POS 231 V6, according to OP, then I should make somewheres around 850-900 hp. LOL 😀 Not to bad seeing it came from the factory with 235 hp.

Some people are just ignorant towards a V6, thinking that they don't make any power. You should learn to use google and do a search on fast V6's. There are some very fast V6's out there that would make your "455" look like a POS boat anchor. The v6 that came in the GN/T types (LC2)is a completely different animal than a NA V6. Yeah they don't sound like a hotrod but when boost starts to build and you are looking at tailights for 1000 feet will make you say :wtf: was that!!!!

Do a search on turbo 6's before you start to run them down. Like Dogshit said "your statements make you look like an idiot" Better yet go to a turbo buick board and tell those guys how there V6's are nothing but boat anchors and scrap.
Chris

My opinion on the 231 is just that...an opinion...and just like your opinion - I feel very strongly about it. No one on this earth will ever be able to impress me with a V6 motor of ANY description. I have been building hotrods since before most of you guys were still in diapers and I can assure you that any V6 motor that comes into my possession - between the fenders of my next prospective project - is going to get rolled off into the TALL weeds somewhere...or more preferably rolled down a ditch bank into a nice running stream.

Contrary to the image I am sure some of you have already formed about me, I am not necessarily just a pro-V8 guy. I have hotrodded various types of engines over the years. I got my start with Volkswagens in fact and a few opposed sixes, both Porsche and Chevrolet (Corvair). It would probably take me many days to compose a list of all the engines I have built over the years, however one fact stands out in my mind that I can spout of very quickly - NONE were V6's. A V6 engine doesn't even make good sense from an engineering prospective, much less a hotrodding prospective...lol. A 60* V6 is about 10 times more logical than a 90* one is....they're just dumb.

Another interesting fact that stands out in my mind is regarding the number of broken crankshafts I have seen over the years - mostly in the scads of machine shops I have traffic'd in and out of....nearly ALL of them were from a V6 motor of some sort. Wonder why that is?
