Hello everyone,
Happy to be a new member and collect lot's of info from everyone. Proud new owner of 1978 Monte Carlo 305 w factory 4 speed and -tops . Too rare of a car to pass up , originally from Tennessee she has some rust thanks to her time up in Illinois ,nothing horrible though. The car runs and drives , burns out like a 350 and chirps 2nd!! I've looked for production numbers on the 78s and have only found that there some 1900 four speed cars built but most were six cylinders. Couple people said this is a 1 of 70sh cars built, not including the ttop option? Sorry I know this more of a intro forum just wanted to give a little history ......thx

I think you made a good decision to purchase the car. The car is indeed rare. Car looks to be fairly loaded. I think the car having T-tops, A/C and the 4 speed makes it very unique. Looks like the car could be all original and possibly all numbers matching. I'd say restore it back to original.

As of right now go with the "Survivor Driver " theme . Get it mechanically sound ac compressor clutch is seized, broken vaccum lines, check the brakes. Really other than that it drives really nice. Lots if power, I dove it home about 20 miles and not one issue . Shifting that 4 speed , passing cars. I was really impressed plus the fact its ttops and it was solid no rattling or wind noise, tight and right. I've searched production #s can't find anything as v8 4 speeds, or ttops just the 1900sh manuals that were made and I guess most were 6 cylinders. Any ideas ?

What a cool rare car! If you ever sell that thing I need to know first please. Thats also a good candidate for a restoration as close as possible to stock. You would be hard pressed to find another one of those rolling down the road thats a factory 4 speed and power options. Not to mention the v8 and ttops......

Nice car. Very rare combination of options. I just picked up a 78' last fall myself. I am jealous of the T-tops and the 4 speed.
