Oh... the vinyl seats and sunroof were a couple of the things I really wanted. So I guess it all worked out for both of us.
That's why they call them options. Those happen to be my least favorite options, and those two options were one of the main reasons I didn't push late last year to buy this, besides the price seemed a tad high for say, like a non-GN. But I do love that black/silver/claret combo. This car has been offered for sale for quite some time, but I think the asking price was a bit steep for most people to jump on, or this car probably would have been long gone regardless of which options I liked or not.

But I'm glad you got things worked out to your liking. You found a needle in a haystack if you were looking for vinyl seats on a 442. As long as you're happy with what you got, more power to you. There's not too many of these ultra-low-mile beauties left out there.

I did have a bit of a time following the paperwork, however. It appears that Joliet Olds dealership sold it to another dealership which then sold it to the original owner??? I think? Or maybe I was mistaken on that. Also, the factory order appeared to get changed up somewhere along the way and was amended somehow. I can't recall if more or less options were ordered or simply changed.

Regardless, it's clean, and seemingly pristine. Many miles of luck with it!!!!

Thanks so much. I do appreciate that. But my idea of pristine and the dealer's definition are too different things.

Some paint on the hood is blistered, but the owner didn't want to repair it for originality's sake. I was unhappy that the selling dealer didn't disclose that.

The headliner has fallen, which is not unexpected for a mid-80s car... but for a pristine car... yes it is.

And a couple of other minor things..., tachometer shows about 1,000 rpms too high and the oil pressure indicates about 30 psi too high, but I can live with both for now.

Lastly, the power antenna's plastic gear is broken. Again, not unexpected, but not pristine either.

All good arguments for a pre-purchase inspection. On the bright side, everything else works and it drives like new... obviously.

So I'll kick myself for paying too much, but enjoy the ride while I start making it a "pristine" car.

I like the vinyl myself. Surely you are going to run the miles up on it.

It's still likely the nicest original 85 442 out there. I'm going to have to go through mine, but I put 60K miles on it since new. At one point, it was my only car, so I didn't have much choice.

If the power antenna runs constantly, it's more likely the nylon actuator cable has snapped. A common problem with those things.

Don't get rid of it anytime soon. When going through mine, I may need some photographic help.
