Welcome, you do have quite the undertaking ahead of you but have some good parts planned. Looking forward to this coming together

Just make sure you get your carb done by someone who knows what they're doing. DO NOT TRADE IN your 442 carb (if you have a 6009 carb) for any big box store reman junk.

A 442 carb is 800 cfm and is jetted differently in the primaries than the Y carb among other things. Throttle body is slightly different too, although not sure what that difference is. Part number is different.

I would suggest a reasonably-priced, but good rebuild if you're going to want to keep driving it for a while. Everyday Performance https://www.everyday-performance.com/index.htm can hook you up for about the price of a decent reman anyway. Ship him your old carb with a check for what he quotes you, and he'll send you back a fully functional Q-jet specifically set up for your car.
Another Olds expert, which he is on the older stuff, claimed the jetting was the same on the primary side. He claimed the only difference was the secondary side. I believe you FYI on what is right on these G bodies👍. I will edit my response.

As far as the 8.5" inspect everything. You could do new clutch packs, they are available. If it looks really questionable, put in new bearings. Honestly as is, throw in new 85W140 conventional, make sure it has friction modifier and it should hold up just fine as is. They are a lot stronger than the worthless 7.5", glad I don't have to deal with one under my 70 Cutlass. I broke the 7.5" in my 88 twice.

I live in the Bay Area, Ca and found a guy out here for a little less than $500. Place is called Ace Automotive and Fuels Inc. Sounds pretty knowledgeable, I just can't say I know enough about carbs to know where he's wrong. Thanks for the guidance.

Better get it firm right away that he'll be rebuilding YOUR carburetor and not just exchanging it, and supplying you with a reman he ordered off the interwebz. Just saying. Not doubting them as I know nothing about them, but even some of the "good mechanics" of today don't know sh*t about OBD1 Q-jet carburetors. Those guys just farm out the job to someone else, charge you double, and you think that guy did it. Just be careful and that you know what to expect going in.

Last time I got a quote from Ken at everyday, it was $400 for it to be full-on, including replating, bushed throttle body, and all that jazz. This was before inflation got hold of everyone, however.
