Are you going to black out the spokes?

I made a wet spot in my pants
3rd time today... :)

Those do look sharp. Black out those inlays and that's going to look killer.

I'd like to but maybe not til over winter....I'll likely put the 15x7 SS3's back on and take the time to do those inlays without being in a rush.

I agree with all comments, it does need it to break up the chrome a little...and emulate the factory scheme more.

Thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback on these, I really do think YearOne hit a need for these and for the cost will sell a ton of them.

Ok, so I couldn't wait or have the time/patience to fiddle with the vinyl decals for now so I popped them on the care today (in this sweltering heat here).

Here are some pics as promised...I absolutely LOVE the look!!

Side by Side to the 15x7 SS3 Chrome repros from Wheel Vintiques (4 1/4" BS) that were 225/60R15 FRONT & 245/60R15 BACK)

The YearOne's are 17x8 with 4.5" BS, and they supply 1/4" spacers if you need them.

My only (minor) complaint was the center caps, they are plastic chrome, which isn't terrible but the round spring they put behind the 5 tabs that snap into the wheel center are a PITA, and kept popping out trying to get them in. With the wheel off the car to get to the back of the wheel center it's possible to nudge them a bit to seat them properly otherwise I can see them being even more of a PITA trying to get them on with wheel on car.

FWIW i really wanted to get the US Mags Saber U437 wheels (in same size) but they increased the prices close to $200 per wheel ($720 -> $910) over the Fall/Winter 2018/2019 and quite frankly I can buy three sets of these for the cost of one set of those. Granted the US Mags have a myriad of custom sizes, and 2/3 piece forged, etc.but cast aluminum is fine for me and my type of driving...YMMV.

Thanks for the compliment!

Yes, I went with the BF Goodrich 245/45ZR17 99W XL (directional tread) and they've been pretty good so far. I don't drive the car in bad weather, but the one time I did get caught in a rainstorm over the summer, they performed quite well at highway speeds imho. YMMV, of course.

I just ordered a set of these in the 17x8 CHROME over CAST ALUMINUM style, YearOne says they should be in stock by end of this month so I should have them soon. I've pre-ordered them to get the free shipping, and was told after they have them in stock the price will be increasing a little.

These are going to replace my existing (perfect) set of Wheel Vintiques 15x7 Chrome SSIII's now that I've lowered 1" all around, and full QA1 CoilOver with 2-way adjustable shocks. Itching to get the car out and aligned with these on, and the new MonteSS steering box upgrade as well if this RAIN would ever go away..lol

Not sure if I will paint, or sticker the spokes black to get the stock SSIII look...I'll see how they look first without. I was really conflicted on getting the US MAGS Saber U437 Forged 2 pc (great looking wheel, no question) but they've raised the price almost $200 PER WHEEL since Fall 2018 (to $940 each, (CarID) so that helped me decide to go with these. If I like them I'll order a couple of extras to have as spares as still not come even close to the cost of the US MAGS.

Not having the taller sidewalls, and raised whites will take some getting used to I'm sure...will post pics of actuals when they arrive. I do like the stepped style a little better that you can get on the US MAGS, but again think I can get used to.

Hope these truly are as nice as they look in the pics...we'll soon find out.

Long shot for old post but do you still have the Wheel Vintiques 15x7 Chrome SSIII's off your car? If so, for sale ?? I’d put them on my ‘65 Olds

I'd much prefer the chrome plated steel Super Stock III design as used on the 83-84 H/Os, 85mup 442s, etc. Does anyone reproduce them ?

Help,
Owen

I'm not aware of any company producing reproductions any longer. I still have my Wheel Vintique (WV) 15x7 set, and plan to keep them for use on a future vehicle. I can share (and I'm only repeating what I recall from speaking to WV many years ago); that the SSIII chrome rally wheels from the 80's use the same "center" section on both the 14" (14x6) and the 15" (15x7) variants. I had the 14x6 SSIII originally on my 1987 Salon as a matter of fact.

What they told me was the only difference between the 14 & 15 inch SSIII wheels was the "hoop", or the stepped "wheel" itself. So, if you have, or can find a clean set of the 14x6 SSIII wheels, you can have a quality wheel shop cut them from their 14" hoops, and re-weld into 15" hoops, then re-chrome. My understanding is the 1" larger hoop diameter is just an increase in the diameter of the wheel STEP area. The conversation I had was in reference to my inquiry to send them a set of 14 or 15 inch SSIII and have them fitted to 17" hoops. I haven't measured, but my recollection is the centers are about 12", and they replied anything larger than 15" hoop would not be possible because the step/proportion/look would be sub-optimal and there was no 16, 17 or higher wheel hoop that would accept a 12" center.

Anyway, others on here may have more info to share on the subject, just figured I'd share what they told me. If anyone has a set of 14x6 SSIII's and wants to confirm the center section diameter, I can certainly go and measure my 15x7 ones as well and post here. I have both the WV 15x7, and OEM 85-87 442 15x7 (different backspace from the WV, fyi), just don't have any 14x6 to measure.

For example, here's one on ebay currently... http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5335822911&icep_item=264884997992

Hope this helps.
