Yeah, the steering still locks. The rev. light switch is down on the trans iirc, and the clutch switch is on the pedal bracket, but it works. right now I can't recall how that connects into things, been too long. :D

You can get the above reverse light harness pigtail to plug into the trans from GM (12085485) if you don't already have one. The connector you want to tap into is at the base of the column:

...I brought the wiring through the old shift cable grommet.


You also want to disconnect the other connector on the factory neutral safety/backup light switch on the column - it's supposed to fool the ECM into thinking it's always in drive.

I bought a GM neutral safety switch from theelcaminostore, but I doubt I will end up using it - they aren't really required, and I always use the brake rather than putting the car in gear...

thanks again; gp403; we'll follow your lead on the remaining wiring issues; and look at the other sites you listed; p.s. we're likeing that 81/GP 403 sleeper; that I bet has woken up a few people!! Johns

having the collar in the "wrong"position may be a good theft deterent. i can just picture it driving someone nuts.
