Quite the opposite actually...Like everything else this is a matter of opinion and if you’re a mopar or no car kind of guy I get it. The Hemi has major design defects including a fatal flaw with camshaft lubrication and dropping valve seats. After working with FCA and seeing their lack of engineering discipline there is no way I would own a dodge. Not trying to start a shyt storm here but the data speaks for itself.

I was talking more in terms of available N/A power. We are probably 5+ years from needing a new truck. Too many underutilized vehicles as it is already.

I haven't heard of a single HC 6.2 developing a camshaft lube or dropped valve seat. Other mechanical issues yes, but that is usually due to abuse.

My understanding was that the 5.7 was pretty robust due to it's simplicity. I would never touch anything with DoD.

We buy the extended warranty when we buy new. The 6 years are up in February. It’s payed off. Since I’m not a mechanic, I can’t fix things that may go wrong. I like Chevys/ GM none of 7 new GMs we’ve bought in those 27 years has never been back to the dealer for anything other than free inpections and oil changes.

If you like what you have, it might make sense to hang on to it and just keep maintaining it. The steepest part of the depreciation has already happened. If you just banked the $3-400/month you'd be making in payments for the next 2 years, you'd easily cover an engine or transmission replacement, which would be absolutely the very worst case scenario. Tires, brakes, etc. are normal wear items that you'd be dealing with on any vehicle.

It's not my place to decide what anyone else needs. You guys should drive whatever you like. I'm only suggesting that the end of the warranty coverage doesn't need to be scary.

My view as to why new vehicles suck is because in 20 years there will be nothing worth steeling off them for hotrod purposes.

You could always rob a 455 Pontiac out of a Catalina and toss it in a I6 68 firebird, throw a 5.0 exploder driveline into a 4cyl mustang, or a 5.3 LS into, well, anything, but who is going to swap a 1.4L turbo equinox engine into, well, anything.

Blah. Boring.

FFS, don't get me started on my wife's penchant for trading cars when the ash trays get full and the tires need air. Ok, we're not smokers, thank goodness, but it seems like the time frame between cars lately. Bought a new 2010 Caddy Wagon for her. Regular fuel, with the crappy (for back then) 3.0 V6. Then in 2016 she gets a hair to want a CTS. Ok, 2016 CTS it is with the 3.6. Then 2019 she wants an SUV. XT5 with the 3.6. Regular fuel. So I said, fine, I had my truck for 10 years, time to upgrade to the 2020 Denali. Premium fuel. Then she saw that 2020 CT5-VSeries. 3.0 TT with 360 HP. Premium fuel requirement. Sounds like azz when you first start it, but I have to say, you step on it and that 3.0 will come alive. Impressive for what it is. I call it her iPhone on wheels.

If your wife's dead set on an SUV, and unless you're buying new, take look at a slightly used 2019/2020 XT5 with the 3.6 (all XT5 come with 3.6). It's 304 HP or some sh*t like that, and it runs on regular, and the ride just might surprise you. You can get into an almost new 60K MSRP SUV for likely less than 40K. I was mildly surprised at the versatility of it and the ride. They're all over the place, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding one. That's part of the reason they don't hold a higher value when used.

Either way, nice cars ain't cheap, and cheap cars ain't nice.

The 4.7 is the only V8 that I heard of that liked to kill itself. It's notorious for dropping seats, but it's a Mercedes engine I do believe.

The 5.7 hemi which was put in almost everything has the dropped seat issue. It’s well-documented. As motorhead alluded to perhaps the 6.2 does not have these problems.....dunno. The hellcat engine seems to have gotten the best of everything. Low RPM idling is what tears up the cams and lifters on most Hemi’s. Lack of lubrication at low RPM.

I don't know how anyone thinks that horrendous looking Blazer is worth buying. How are they selling any at all? I really like our V6 AWD Challenger. We will be buying another before they stop making them.

Never understood "new car" lust personally, for me, but thank goodness somebody had it in 1981

I was looking at trucks, used are well, USED and stupidly expensive for miles, and new are stupidly expensive and come with sh*t I would never use (touchscreens, bluetooth, etc)
