well something is wrong so I'd be starting over...did you look at the proportional valve?..if it's not in the right position you won't have any back brakes

If i am understanding u right than u have fluid comin out of each bleeder. That tells me that the combination valve is workin. There is a leak in the system somewhere because a liquid is a non compressable. its either internal or external, do the easy first have a friend pump the brakes and check for any visible leaks in the system. If there is no visiable leaks remove the rear wheels pop off the drums and check the wheel cyls for leaks. Next if still no sign of fluid grab a pair of vice grips have a friend jump in the car apply the vice grips to the both ft flex hoses pump up brakes, pedel should be hard as ****, if it is than the ft portion of the master is fine no internal by pass. follow me? if the pedal is the same there is a internal leak in the master cyl. Next if we have a hard pedal remove the grips clamp off the rear flex hose, should be hard pedel. if not the the rear portion of the master cyl is bypassing. There is a deff a leak in the system somewhere.

I'll check the proportioning valve tomorrow. I should just tap the "button" to recenter the valve? If it's rusted shut I guess I'll have to replace it and start all over, huh?

Thanks

This goes without saying under some circumstances, but if there is no leak from the wheel cylinders, reinstall the drums before u pump the brakes or u'll add to yer mess lol

Its act a combination valve and if your gettin fluid from all four wheels than yer wasting yer time it is all and well.

ok,

Im having the same problem. I spent my entire day bleeding and bleeding and bleeding.

ive replaced the front calipers and the rear wheel cylinders. I also just replaced the master. I did everything right. WTF this is driving me nuts.

there are no leaks in the system.

Pontiac, or someone else. can you better explain that part on the porportioning valve? how far out should it be or how far in should it be? what position should it be in when bleeding and when your done?

and where can I get the valve? ive been looking around locally and my local parts places done even list them. i found 1 for $80. not really looking forward to spending that when everything else was $10 or $20

the brakes worked great before I changed the rear. I bleed the rear and had a great pedal and brakes. I changed the front pads and thats when lost my pedal. so then i changed the calipers after i broke the bleeder (easier and cheap enough that way)

did you bleed your system after you changed the front callipers and did you ever let the reservoir go dry?

and a disk/drum non adjustable proportioning valve is not $80 so I don't who quoted you that price

@ pontiac - i got an autozone and an advance autoparts near me. both dont have the part listed so i did a quick google search. it was the only one that came up. im not about to change something that i know is working. im getting fluid to all the wheels.

I bleed the brakes many times. yes, after i changed the calipers. I lost the pedal after i compressed the piston in the fronts when i changed the pads. I had a pedal before that. so seeing how that is what changed i figured i got air in the line when I was doing the rear i bleed the whole system. still no pedal.

I did check the rear shoes. I was rusty when i was doing them but ill double check them.

Im desperate at this point. Ive been waiting since I started working on the car mid summer to get back out and drive it.

I'm not suggesting to change the prop valve, I just commented on the price. How are you bleeding the brakes?
