Now I understand why they pull the turbos

I dug my spare carb out of my storage and its at my place. If you want to do the carb swap let me know.

Noisy driver-side lifters are normal with the Buick V6. Oil goes around the #1 cam bearing before it gets to the driver-side lifter gallery. It travels through a groove on the cam journal, and leaks out between the journal and bearing, which slows it down. The loudest noise should go away around the time the idiot light goes out, meaning pressure is up, within a couple of seconds of starting.

Naturally, it's worse the hotter it's been outside, and the longer the car has been sitting.

It's also worse with synthetic oil, which leaks more easily. On the other hand, synthetic cools the motor better, and forms less crud, both of which are good with a turbo.

If you want to do something about the lifters, you can try replacing your #1 cam bearing with the one shown here from this set. Mind you I haven't installed it myself yet, but it makes sense to me fwiw. 😀

Install with the hole at about 3 or 4 o'clock, I think ....

Do these engines have a just able rocker arms? You should have checked the valve lash right after pulling the valve covers to make sure you don't have a valve hanging open or too tight of a valve lash setting. I have been thinking about your problem lately I think you may have a valve not closing all the way.
Yeah, these are the non adjustable type

Great news on the cam/lifters. How did the intake gaskets look when you pulled it apart? Any chance it was sucking vacuum?
 
It is possible that your push rods are too long and hanging a valve open. If the block was decked, head planed, thickness of head gasget. That all plays on valve geometry. I would roll the engine over to each cylinder is firing and make sure rockers are a little loose but not too loose. Then you know your long block is good.

If it was me. I would check over the long block and beings you have the intake off. I would throw the draw through crap on the shelf and put the top end off your hot air engine on that block. The performance would greatly be better than the carb setup. It would be a lot more work, but worth it in the long run. I thought about that my self, but I don't have a turbo t laying around. Have you checked out Repeat Procedure on Turbo Buick? That is a hole not her idea I kicked around. I just don't want you to go through all this work to be disappointed. If you want to take a road trip you can come drive my car.
