I cheaped out with a new oil pan since the only one they had in stock when I need one was of course made in China and I was of course in a hurry to get my engine finished and in the car....it leaks front and back and the gasket I used is top grade one. I'm going to buy a new aluminum pan and am wondering what gaskets you guys have had luck with so there is no leaking at the front and/or back of the pan. Even our race GM crate engine leaks at the front and back and I hate an engine that leaks anything at all...

I always had ana oil leak on my sbc...could be the the pan i have also? but i read an article in hotrod mag, that Ken Duttweiler used clear rtv sealant on the pan rails and never gets a leak, so maybe that will work i may give it a try when i take off the pan in the future

the only thing i have ever used to keep my turbo motor from leaking front and back was "right stuff" while assembling i always brake clean the gasket and the front cover and the pan and then i run i thin bead around the sealing surface . between block and gasket, between pan and gasket, and a little extra in the corners.

From my experience, adding a little extra gasket in the corners is the key.

I used my original pan and the 4 piece cork gasket set from Summit racing. I scraped all the old material and cleaned with brake kleen. I layed down a thin line of black rtv along the pan rails and put some extra at the ends. I sealed it up and let it set for a few days. When i started the engine up for the first time i was pissed cuz i saw a oil leak. I left it like that for a few weeks until i decided to see where it was leaking from. It was coming from the loose oil plug  but the pan is sealed up great so far.

I was reading my chevy motor book, and i found out that they are 2 different size gaskets for the front and the rear, and you need to take a measurement to see which one you have

just might be both of our problems, assuming you have a SBC for a motor

fel-pro 1pc neoprene pan gasket with RTV in the corners of the timing cover and rear main

I also have a small oil leak in the front and back of the oil pan on my SBC....i might have to try the RTV sealant. my mechanic used a different gasket this time, i think it's the 2 piece fel-pro. it's a blue one...i thought it was my front and rear main seal but maybe it's not hope so

thanks for the suggestions...it's frustrating cause I had a leak on the 305 that use to be in there in the front and rear of the pan and with this engine I took my time to make sure the gasket was in place and everything looked good....and when I saw it leaking I just said :wtf:

I bought a high dollar 1 piece rubber pan gasket and nice moroso pan... I wasn't about to pull the engine to fix that leak so I spent some extra time and money on it.
