It shouldn't. The choke wire should always be hot while the key is in run.

Sorry, but the electric choke wire on the V6 DOES run through the oil pressure switch (for non-gauge pack cars). This prevents the choke from being heated unless the engine is actually running. Otherwise, leaving the key in the RUN position would prematurely heat the choke coil. Cars with gauges used the field wire from the alternator to activate a choke relay, since the gauge pack sending unit did not have a provision for a second wire.
