You are talking a total custom, basically not a G body and huge $$$$. Body and paint can reach double digit cost here alone. Still leaves the old person interior and crappy suspension. My car stripped is far from stock. If it had value, it would restore it. Put 40 grand in, good luck getting a 1/4 of that. I am out on this one, spend your 40K and get back to us. Man I miss Olds Power.
Paint costs nowhere near $40k. Do most of work yourself its like under $5k. Interior mebbe $2k. Custom suspension mebbe $2500. Custom rear end mebbe $2k max, and modern drive line under $5k. All of that will easily put you in the performance and comfort range of a $40k car with a result that won't depreciate in value. And personally I exaggerated on cost to build.
I was basically talking about building a "race car" that looks like a G body. I'm so cheap that if I had 40k to spend on one I probably wouldn't paint it. I'd save that money for more performance parts. I'm gonna have to agree with Olds 307 that even after you spent that much on a G body you'd never ever come close to getting your money back out of it. If I had that much to spend on a car I wouldn't be thinking about selling it anyways. I used to always say I wanna spend about 20k on my car so it'll be worth maybe 5k when I'm done! Lol.

I would see this all the time when I was looking for my Regal it appears people add every receipt they have along with the original purchase price and think that is what their car is worth, I am sure some included oil changes in there too.

If that was the case, holy sh*t, I should ask 20 grand or more. That is why I am fixing my 70 S as a driver. I figure it will take 10 to 15 grand to make it nice, including paint, paid $1500 originally, good luck finding a Chevelle for that. I could actually get close to that money if I had to sell.
